President Droupadi Murmu while extending felicitations to Sri Lankan President Ranil Wickremesinghe

1. PM Modi held a telephonic conversation with the United Nations Secretary-General, Antonio Guterres on 29 Jul.

Both leaders discussed the recent attack on the UN Organization Stabilization Mission in the Democratic Republic of the Congo (MONUSCO), where two Indian peacekeepers were martyred. Prime Minister Modi urged the UN Chief to ensure expeditious investigations.

2. External Affairs Minister Dr S Jaishankar has called for urgently addressing the energy and food crisis that the world is facing, due to disruptions from the Covid pandemic and Ukraine conflict.

3. Newly-elected President Droupadi Murmu while extending felicitations to Sri Lankan President Ranil Wickremesinghe said that India has been committed to assist the people of Sri Lanka in overcoming the challenges posed by the economic crises.

1. United States: At least 25 people have been killed in a devastating flash flood in the Appalachia region of eastern Kentucky.

2. A US special envoy met senior Taliban representatives in Tashkent, Uzbekistan and discussed the issue of Afghan central bank reserves.The discussion took place during meetings that took place after the conclusion of the Uzbekistan-hosted Tashkent Conference on Afghanistan on July 26.

3. A Baloch separatist leader strongly urged China to stop the China Pakistan Economic Corridor (CPEC) project in Baluchistan as it has forcibly displaced lakhs of indigenous people and destroyed their properties.The multi-billion dollar CPEC project is a network of highways and railways that will span the length and breadth of Pakistan.

4. The Taliban called for the implementation of Sharia law in Afghanistan, stressing the need for preserving Islamic values.

5. Spanish Prime Minister Pedro Sanchez has called on workers in the public and private sectors to stop wearing ties, as an energy-saving measure in the heat.

6. Pakistan Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif and his son Hamza Shehbaz have been summoned by a special court in Lahore on September 7 for framing of charges in a PKR 16 billion money laundering case. Shehbaz and Hamza were booked on corruption charges in November 2020.
