1. In Assam, the BJP-led NDA government will take an oath for a third consecutive term on the 12th of May.
2. Tamil Nadu’s TVK party struggles to prove majority claim: In the assembly poll results, Actor-turned politician Vijay’s Tamilaga Vettri Kazhagam (TVK) swept 108 of the state’s 234 seats. TVK needs 10 more seats to hit that 118-seat mark. DMK has secured 59, and AIADMK has won 47 seats, while Congress has won five seats.
3. Union Home Minister Amit Shah will arrive in Kolkata today. He is scheduled to attend a meeting with the newly elected BJP MLAs, during which the party’s legislative leader will be selected.
4. Mizoram and the Ministry of Jal Shakti’s Department of Drinking Water and Sanitation signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) in New Delhi for the implementation of Jal Jeevan Mission (JJM) 2.0.
5. Bihar Chief Minister Samrat Chaudhary expanded his cabinet yesterday. In a grand ceremony held at Gandhi Maidan in Patna, Governor Lt. Gen. (Retd.) Syed Ata Hasnain administered the oath of office and secrecy to thirty-two appointed ministers. The cabinet now comprises fifteen ministers from the BJP quota, thirteen from the JD(U), two from the Lok Janshakti Party (Ram Vilas), and one each from the Hindustani Awam Morcha and the Rashtriya Lok Morcha.
6. Puducherry Chief Minister N. Rangasamy submits resignation to Lieutenant Governor K. Kailashnathan. The National Democratic Alliance government led by Rangasamy is set to return to power after securing a comfortable majority in the elections.
7. In West Bengal, the state Legislative Assembly has been formally dissolved. Governor R. N. Ravi issued the order to dissolve the existing Assembly yesterday, exercising powers under Article 174 of the Constitution.
8. The swearing-in of newly elected BJP government in West Bengal will take place at the Brigade Parade Ground in Kolkata on Saturday, on the occasion of Rabindra Jayanti.
9. In Jammu and Kashmir, special prayers were held at Gurdwara Shri Guru Singh Sabha in Poonch district yesterday to pay homage to those killed in Pakistani shelling following Operation Sindoor.
10. The Telangana state government has released Rs 375 crore as the first installment for the Musi Riverfront Development Project, from the Rs 1,500 crore allocation made for this in the state budget 2026-27.

1. In Jharkhand, police have arrested three hardcore members of the banned outfit PLFI from the Karra police station area in Khunti district.
2. Police took into custody and investigated William Joseph, a resident of Shiv Mandir, Siliguri, in connection with the murder case of BJP leader Suvendu Adhikari’s close aide. His car’s number plate was allegedly used by the assailants who killed Chandranath Rath, the BJP leader’s PA, at Madhyamgram in Kolkata.
3. In Jammu and Kashmir, the anti-drug campaign has intensified, with 481 FIRs registered and 518 people arrested in the last 22 days. Authorities have also attached or demolished 24 properties linked to the narcotics trade under the NDPS Act.

1. HAL has yet to deliver a single TEJAS MK-1A to the Indian Air Force as of 7 May 2026, despite having six GE F404 engines and more than twenty airframes in inventory.
2. SSS Defence has successfully delivered the first batch of its indigenously designed T-12 Semi-Auto Shotguns to the Indian Army, marking a significant milestone in India’s drive towards self-reliance in defence manufacturing.The weapon, already tested in counter-drone roles, is now being inducted into operational units, particularly under the Northern Command.The Bangalore-based defence manufacturer has handed over the T-12 shotguns.
3. IG Defence, based in Noida, is developing India’s first private sector short-range surface-to-air missile system called Jwala, a fully indigenous project aimed at strengthening sovereign strike capabilities through rapid response, precision targeting, and flexible deployment.
4. As India commemorates the first anniversary of Operation Sindoor, Air Marshal (Retd) Sanjeev Kapoor, AVSM, VM, described the operation as a proud milestone that reshaped India’s air power doctrine, strengthened regional deterrence, and accelerated the nation’s drive for defence self-reliance.
5. India has deployed its first indigenous Maritime Spotter Drone from INS Vikrant, developed by Mumbai-based Sagar Defence Engineering. This marks a major leap in naval aviation technology, enabling real-time surveillance, piracy interception, and autonomous operations from moving warships.
6. In his reflections, he emphasised that the Indian Air Force’s standoff strikes on 7 May 2025 demonstrated surgical precision, achieving their objectives without collateral damage to civilian infrastructure.
7. Sanjay Seth, Minister of State for Defence, highlighted the pivotal role of Sainik Schools in shaping disciplined, responsible, and patriotic youth, while emphasizing the importance of academic excellence, leadership, and character-building in preparing future officers for the Armed Forces.
He was inaugurating the 52nd All India Sainik Schools Principals’ Conference, which commenced at Sainik School, Kazhakootam, near Thiruvananthapuram.
