1. India’s CCTS (Carbon Credit Trading Scheme) has been given an approval by the UK to qualify as a carbon pricing scheme under its CBAM. This may help Indian exporters in reducing the carbon costs associated with exporting carbon-intensive products to the UK market.
2. Honorable PM Narendra Modi presented Russian President Vladimir Putin with a Russian translation of the Thirukkural while hosting him in New Delhi prior to the BRICS Summit. 2. In Yemen, the Houthi forces have advanced towards the strategic Bab el-Mandeb Strait. Houthi forces have reached Dhubab, a coastal town near the strait, and the strategic Perim Island.
3. Yesterday marks 25 years since the 11 September, 2001 terrorist attacks in the United States. On September 11, 2001, four passenger planes were hijacked by al-Qaeda terrorists. Two were flown into New York’s World Trade Center, one struck the Pentagon near Washington, D.C., and a fourth crashed in Pennsylvania after passengers fought back against the hijackers.
4. Yemen’s Iranian-backed Houthi rebels have captured the strategic island of Mayun in the Bab el-Mandeb Strait at the entrance to the Red Sea. This could further threaten Saudi oil exports through one of the world’s key commercial shipping lanes.
5. The Trump administration has proposed ending the up-to-60-day grace period that allows H-1B workers and several other employment-based visa holders to remain in the United States after losing their jobs.
6. In China, twenty people were killed when a fire broke out on a foreign-flagged cargo ship undergoing repairs in the eastern port city of Qingdao.
7. In Nepal, the death toll from flash floods rose to 1,377 today as rescue teams recovered more bodies, while more than 5,000 people remained missing.
