1. President Smt. Droupadi Murmu unveiled and flagged off the trophies for the Durand Cup 2026 in New Delhi. President Murmu extended her best wishes to all the teams and players participating in the tournament.
Chief of Defence Staff General Anil Chauhan, Chief of the Army Staff General Dhiraj Seth and Chief of the Naval Staff Admiral Krishna Swaminathan were also present on the occasion.
2. The Ministry of Textiles stated that the National Jute Board has developed jute-viscose blended apparel that will be worn by the Indian athletes and team members participating in the Commonwealth Games 2026. This initiative is aimed at promoting sustainable textiles and showcasing India’s innovation in natural fibres.
3. In the Wimbledon Tennis, World No. 1 and defending champion Jannik Sinner has stormed into Men’s Singles semifinal beating Jan-Lennard Struff of Germany. Sinner defeated Struff in straight sets 7-5, 7-6, 6-3 in the quarter-final match.
In Women’s Singles, Coco Gauff advanced to the Wimbledon semi-finals after defeating fellow American Jessica Pegula 4-6, 6-3, 6-3 in a thrilling quarter-final match.
4. In FIFA World Cup:
Belgium defeated United States 4-1 in the Round of 16 clash in Seattle to secure their place in the quarterfinals of the tounament.
Spain stormed into the quarter-finals beating Portugal 1-nil in the Round of 16 clash at the Dallas Stadium.
England, Norway, Morocco and France have already entered quarter-finals.
5. India have named a 15-member squad for the upcoming T20I series against Zimbabwe starting on July 23 in Harare.
