president murmu gives assent to womens reservation bill becomes law

1. President Smt. Droupadi Murmu has given her assent to the Women’s Reservation Bill which was passed by both the Houses during the recent special session of Parliament. The gazette notification for the legislation which is also called Nari Shakti Vandan Adhiniyam. After the President’s assent, now the legislation has become a law.

The law provides for 33 percent reservation to women in the Lok Sabha and State Assemblies as well as Delhi Assembly. 33% reservation for women belonging to SCs and STs will also be provided within the existing quota for this category.

2. PM Modi is set to launch a week-long programme called ‘Sankalp Saptaah‘ on today (30 Sept 2023). This visionary initiative is closely tied to the effective execution of the Aspirational Blocks Programme (ABP).

Over 6,40,000 sites adopted for Shramdaan from urban & rural India for mega cleanliness drive: Housing and Urban Affairs Minister Hardeep Singh Puri said.

3. PM Modi to visit Telangana on 1st October & dedicate multiple developmental projects worth more than Rs 13,500 crore to the nation.

5. Ministry of Skill Development and Entrepreneurship is organising a cleanliness drive on 1st of October to bolster the nationwide sanitation and cleanliness initiative – Swachhata Hi Seva.

6. Commission for Air Quality Management, CAQM for Delhi NCR has now permitted Diesel Generator Sets to be run till 31st of December for emergency services, even under periods of restrictions under the Graded Response Action Plan as a one-time exception.

7. Education Minister Dharmendra Pradhan will launch Bharatiya Bhasha Utsav and Technology and Bharatiya Bhasha Summit today in New Delhi.

8. ISRO is working on increasing the coverage of its Indian Regional Navigation Satellite System or NaVIC to 3,000 km from the existing 1,500 km (from beyond the Indian boundary), ISRO chairman S Somanath informed.

9. Tamil Nadu water resources minister Durai Murugan has said that the State Government will make a demand at the Cauvery Water Management Authority’s (CWMA) meeting that Karnataka should release water at the rate of 12,500 cusecs every day.

14. Himachal Pradesh Government to buy power from 5 MW solar projects for 25 years. The Department of Power made amendments to the Swaran Jayanti Energy Policy 2021 to offer more incentives to promote solar energy. Norms were changed for grid-connected rooftop solar power plants (50 KW and up to 1 MW) under the net metering scheme.

15. Spiritual leader Sadhguru, also known by the name of Jaggi Vasudev, on Friday urged southern states Karnataka and Tamil Nadu to strengthen the Cauvery basin to ensure year-long water flow instead of fighting over the low water level.

Sadhguru’s post evoked a response from BJP MP Tejasvi Surya, who thanked the leader and said both the states should look into the cropping pattern in the region.

1. The Law Commission has proposed some amendments to the Protection of Children from Sexual Offences Act to deal with cases wherein there is tacit approval, but not legal consent, from children aged 16 to 18 years

2. 5. The situation in Manipur’s Imphal valley was calm but tense on Friday after a night of violent clashes, including an attempt to attack the empty ancestral residence of Chief Minister N Biren Singh in Imphal.

6. The apex bodies of Kuki, Zomi and Naga tribes in Manipur on strongly objected to the Manipur government’s notification extending the operation of the Armed Forces (Special Powers) Act for six months only in the hill districts of the State.

The Kuki Inpi (apex body of Kuki tribes) and the United Naga Council (apex body of Naga tribes) both questioned the notification exempting valley regions from AFSPA. They termed the move “oppressive” and “biased”.

The Zomi Council steering committee claimed that 80% of the roughly 175 killings since May 3 had been in areas that have been exempted from AFSPA. It called for these areas to be declared as “Disturbed Areas” under the Act.

7. The International Society for Krishna Consciousness (ISKCON) has sent a Rs 100 crore defamation notice to Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) MP Maneka Gandhi for her remark against the religious organisation. The notice came two days after Gandhi said ISKCON is the “biggest cheat” in the country due to its purported sale of cows from its gaushalas (cowsheds) to butchers.

2. Vande Bharat sleeper trains project on track: In a significant development, the Indian Railways has signed a supply contract with Kinet Railway Solutions, a joint venture between Metrowagonmash (MWM) and Locomotive Electronic Systems (LES) from Russia, along with India’s Rail Vikas Nigam Limited (RVNL), for the production of Vande Bharat trains.

3. The government revised the interest rates for small saving schemes for the third quarter of this fiscal starting from 1st of October. According to the Finance Ministry, the five year recurring deposit will now fetch 6.7% interest rate against the existing 6.5% rate.

4. Bangalore-based aerospace and defence company NewSpace Research & Technologies Pvt Ltd (NRT) has tied up with Japan’s Autonomy HD helmed by leading robotics scientist Kenzo Nonami to create the Autonomous Swarm Systems for Intelligent and Swift Turnaround (ASSIST) initiative for disaster management.

5. Tata Group-owned Air India has completed the acquisition of its first A350-900 aircraft via a finance lease transaction with HSBC through the GIFT City. This is the first wide-body aircraft to be leased through the GIFT City, the country’s first International Financial Services Centre (IFSC).

1. The Indian Air Force (IAF) is set to place orders for 156 ‘Made-in-India’ Prachand attack helicopters from Hindustan Aeronautics Limited (HAL).

Prachand, also known as Light Combat Helicopter (LCH), is intended for deployment on both the China and Pakistan fronts by the IAF and the Indian Army.
