Parliament has passed the Farm Laws Repeal Bill 2021

1. Over 123 crore 15 lakh COVID-19 vaccine doses administered in the country so far; Recovery rate stands at 98.34 %

2. Parliament has passed the Farm Laws Repeal Bill, 2021, with the Lok Sabha and the Rajya Sabha approving it on the first day of the Winter Session on 29 Nov. The bill seeking to withdraw the three farm bills was moved in Lok Sabha by Agriculture Minister Narendra Singh Tomar.

3. It was passed in the Lower House by Speaker Om Birla. The three Laws sought to be repealed include
(a) The Farmers (Empowerment and Protection) Agreement on Price Assurance and Farm Services Act, 2020

(b) The Farmers’ Produce Trade and Commerce (Promotion and Facilitation) Act, 2020,

(c) The Essential Commodities (Amendment) Act, 2020.

4. Rajya sabha suspends 12 opposition members for unruly behavior during previous session. The members who have been suspended are Phulo Devi Netam, Chhaya Verma, Ripun Bora, Rajamani Patel, Syed Nasir Hussain and Akhilesh Prasad Singh of Congress, Binoy Viswam of CPI, Elamaram Kareem of CPI(M), Dola Sen and Shanta Chhetri of TMC, Priyanka Chaturvedi and Anil Desai of Shiv Sen. Union Minister for Parliamentary Affairs Pralhad Joshi had moved the motion seeking their suspension for the current Winter Session which was passed by voice vote.

5. President Ram Nath Kovind visited Dev Sanskriti Vishwavidyalaya, Haridwar on 29 Nov. He said that the main objective of Dev Sanskriti Vishwavidyalaya is to spread the principles of Indian culture and human values.

6. The Central govt on 29 Nov introduced a unique face recognition technology for pensioners aimed at bringing ease of living for the retired and the elderly citizens. The move is expected to benefit 68 lakh Central government pensioners as well as crores of pensioners who fall outside the jurisdiction of the Department of Employees Provident Fund Organisation (EPFO) and state govt.

7. National Highways Authority of India (NHAI) proposed for the alignment of another expressway, that will run from Gorakhpur in Uttar Pradesh to Siliguri in West Bengal via Bihar. Out of total length, 450km stretch of expressway of four/six-lane configuration will pass through Bihar. This highway is part of Bharatmala project. Estimated cost on this project will be around Rs 6000 crore.

8. ANDHRA PRADESH : The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has issued an ‘Orange’ alert for heavy rains in Prakasam, Nellore, Chittoor and Kadapa districts of Andhra Pradesh.

9. Pala Seshadri, an Officer-on-Special Duty (OSD) at the Tirumala temple, who died of cardiac arrest at Visakhapatnam on Monday morning, was an inalienable part of the richest temple body, the Tirumala Tirupati Devasthanams (TTD) in the country for the past 44 years.

10. DELHI : Delhi Air Pollution: ban on construction to continue, no entry on trucks till 7th December. CNG and electric trucks will be allowed to enter Delhi.

11. KERALA : Kerala reports 3,382 new COVID-19 cases, 59 deaths; State health minister Veena George informed the threat of ‘Omicron’ would be discussed with CM in review meeting.

12. MAHARASHTRA : The judicial custody of former Maharashtra Home Minister Anil Deshmukh was extended for another 14 days in connection with the 100 crores extortion racket case on 29 Nov.

13. Bombay HC grants Maharashtra Cabinet Minister Nawab Malik and seven others six weeks’ time to file their reply in Rs 1000 crore defamation suit.

14. The Bombay High Court on Monday extended till 06 Dec from 02 Dec. The time granted to poet-activist Varavara Rao, an accused in the Elgar Parishad-Maoist link case currently out on medical bail, to surrender before the Taloja prison authorities in Navi Mumbai.

15. TAMIL NADU: The earthquake magnitude of 3.6, and it occurred on Monday at ’04:17:22 IST’ at a depth of 25 kilometres and it was 59 kilometres off Vellore and about 184 km west of Chennai.

16. A Delhi court took cognisance of the chargesheets filed by the Central Bureau of Investigation and the Enforcement Directorate against former Union minister P Chidambaram and his son Karti in the Aircel-Maxis case and summoned them on December 20.

17. UTTAR PRADESH : The UPTET examination scheduled to be held on 28 Nov (Sunday) has been cancelled following the leakage of its question paper, Additional Director General Law and Order Prashant Kumar announced shortly before the exam was to begin. More than 19.99 lakh candidates were to appear for the Uttar Pradesh Teachers Eligibility Test (UPTET).

18. Pradhan Mantri Jan Dhan Yojana accounts has surged to 43 crore 85 lakh with deposit balance of over one lakh 48 thousand crore rupees. Minister of State for Finance Dr Bhagwat Kisanrao Karad informed this in a written reply to a question in Lok Sabha today. He said, as of 25th March last year, the total number of Jan Dhan accounts were around 38 crore.

19. The Govt of India and the Asian Development Bank (ADB) recently signed a $300 million loan to strengthen and improve access to comprehensive primary health care in urban areas of 13 states that will benefit over 256 million urban dwellers including 51 million from slum areas.

20. Govt approves strategic disinvestment of Central Electronics Ltd. CCEA empowered Alternative Mechanism approves highest price bid of M/s Nandal Finance & Leasing Private Ltd. for sale of 100% equity shareholding of GoI in CEL. Winning bid is for 210 crore sixty thousand rupees.

21. The Reserve Bank of India has submitted a proposal to the central government to amend an act that will help it launch the central bank digital currency. Introduction of Central Bank Digital Currency (CBDC) has the potential to provide significant benefits, such as reduced dependency on cash, higher seigniorage due to lower transaction costs, and reduced settlement risk. The Government sources said.

22. Jio on Sunday announced a tariff hike on its unlimited prepaid plans, which will go into effect from December 1. Apart from unlimited prepaid plans, Jio has also hiked its data add-on and one JioPhone plan.

24. 6th edition of the BRICS Film Festival awards was announced at the 52nd International Film Festival of India in Goa. For the first time, BRICS Film Festival was held alongside IFFI during November 20 to November 28, 2021.

25. Best film Award was shared by South African Film “Barakat” and Russian Film “The Sun above me Never Sets”.

26. The Army has granted permanent commission (PC) to 557 women officers in accordance with the Supreme Court directive in February last year to end gender bias in the force. “No delay has been made in granting PC to any women officer,” junior defence minister Ajay Bhatt told Rajya Sabha in a written answer on Monday. Asked about the 72 women officers who had approached the court for being denied PC, Bhatt said 63 eligible ones have been granted PC on November 25 this year “in compliance” with the judgment (#Source of this News: ToI)

Senior bureaucrat Vivek Johri was appointed as the chairman of Central Board of Indirect Taxes and Customs (CBIC) on 28 Nov 2021.

Vivek Johri is a 1985-batch Indian Revenue Service (Customs and Indirect Taxes) officer. He was appointed as tenure of former chairman M Ajit Kumar ends in the month of November 2021.
