15. Bengaluru’s HAL underpass on Old Airport Road at Suranjan Das Road junction has been opened for traffic on a trial basis. The 280-metre-long underpass is a part of the 17.5-km-long corridor that connects the Vellara junction to the Hope Farm junction near Whitefield.

16. Bengaluru Suburban Rail Project which aims to provide 360-degree connectivity to the city is set to get Metro rail-like coaches. The coaches will be air-conditioned, 3.2 metres wide and 21.74 metres long. The 148 km line suburban network will comprise four corridors and cover 57 stations.

2. A massive fire broke out at a car showroom in Gujarat’s Surat on Thursday. There were no immediate reports of any casualties in the incident.

3. Pakistani flag was found hoisted in the Madhubani Sipahi Tola area in Bihar’s Purnea on Republic Day on Thursday. Police reached the suspect’s house after getting the information and removed the flag.

1. Ministry of Finance tweeted photos of Union Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman distributing ‘Halwa’ among the staff in a ceremony on Thursday to mark the final stage of the Budget 2023 preparation process. The ‘Halwa ceremony’ is held annually in the basement of North Block.

2. UK car production fell to its lowest level since 1956 last year, according to the Society of Motor Manufacturers and Traders (SMMT). The car production fell nearly 10% to 7,75,014 units in 2022 due to an ongoing global semiconductor shortage and pandemic-related lockdowns in China.

3. Tata Chemicals Europe (TCE) signed an offtake agreement with Vertex Hydrogen for the supply of low-carbon hydrogen. According to the deal, Vertex will supply Tata Chemicals Europe with over 200 megawatts of low-carbon hydrogen. TCE has set a target of achieving “net zero” manufacturing by 2030.

4. Japanese carmaker Suzuki Motor Corp will invest 4.5 trillion yen ($34.8 billion) till 2030 in research, development and making electric vehicles (EVs).

ENTERTAINMENT NEWS

1. Actor Annu Kapoor was on Thursday admitted to Sir Ganga Ram Hospital in Delhi after he complained of chest pain.

2. Actor Suniel Shetty’s family has denied the reports of gifting a ₹50 crore apartment to Athiya and KL Rahul on their wedding. This comes after reports of Suniel Shetty gifting the couple a flat in Mumbai and Salman Khan and Virat Kohli gifting them expensive cars surfaced.

3. Actor Chinmay Mandlekar has said that he has requested protesters to watch the film ‘Gandhi Godse: Ek Yudh’. “The censor board has given it a U certificate without a single cut. People need to trust the censor board, go to the theatres and watch the film,” he added. Chinmay is portraying the role of Nathuram Godse in the film.

DEFENCE

1. Indian Air Force needs 4 billion dollar to upgrade its fighter aircraft Sukhoi fleet. Hindustan Aeronautics Limited (HAL) has already proposed the upgrade program, which is expected to be approved by the government soon.

2. INS Vagir, the fifth of the Kalvari-class submarines under Project-75, has been commissioned into the Indian Navy at a time when China is making forays into the strategically important Indian Ocean region.

The submarine has been built indigenously by Mazagon Dock Shipbuilders Limited (MDL) and designed by French naval defence company Naval Group (formerly known as DCNS) as part of the Indian Navy’s Project-75. While four of the Kalvari-class submarines have already been commissioned, the last is likely to join the fleet by 2024.

3. Egypt on Wednesday reaffirmed its interests in procuring the TEJAS light combat aircraft, radars, military helicopters and other platforms from India, with both sides vowing to ramp up the overall defence engagement in the face of the evolving regional security matrix.
