1. Mann ki Baat @ 26 Apr, Highlights

(a) Focus on Solar and Wind Energy : PM Modi emphasized the increasing use of solar and wind energy, stating that it is playing a major role in meeting India’s energy needs.

(b) Self-Reliant India (Atmanirbhar Bharat): He spoke about promoting the use of indigenous technology and products to achieve the vision of a self-reliant India.

(c) Youth Power : The Prime Minister called upon the youth of the country to embrace innovation and adopt new technologies.

(d) Protection : He stressed the importance of being environmentally conscious and highlighted issues like water conservation.
Public Participation: ‘Mann Ki Baat’ was described as a powerful platform for public participation, where inspiring stories from different parts of the country are shared.

2. 8th Pay Commission: Key meetings to begin in Delhi from April 28. In a notice dated April 24, 2026, the Commission said it has received a large number of requests from employee unions and associations for meetings scheduled between April 28 and April 30 in Delhi.

3. The Central Government has included six border villages in Jammu and Kashmir’s Kathua district under the Vibrant Village Programme-II to improve infrastructure and ensure full delivery of welfare schemes. These villages are located along the International Border and hold strategic importance for border security as well as rural development.

*The villages identified under the programme are Bobiya, Kadyala, Gajnal, Karol Krishna, Rathua, and Gujjar Chak. These villages lie close to the International Border and often face development challenges due to their remote location and security concerns.

4. The self-enumeration facility as part of Census 2027 is available in Telangana from yesterday. The facility will remain open till 10th of May. Census Telangana Director Bharati Holikeri said the first phase, covering house listing operations, will be conducted from 11th of May to 9th of June, while the second phase, population enumeration, will take place in February 2027 to ensure comprehensive and accurate data collection.

5. In Maharashtra, the Indian Institute of Tropical Meteorology (IITM) in Pune, recently commissioned a new X-band Doppler Weather Radar at Mahabaleshwar under Mission Mausam. The radar was inaugurated by M. Ravichandran in the presence of senior scientists and officials from IITM and ISRO on 24th of this month.

6. Union Home Minister Amit Shah to Visit Leh on Two-Day Tour from April 30.

7. The Jammu and Kashmir Police has urged the public to actively use the Emergency Response Support System (ERSS)-112 for immediate assistance during emergencies. The helpline is a 24×7 integrated emergency service that provides prompt response to incidents such as accidents, law and order situations, medical emergencies, fire incidents and distress calls, including those involving women and children.

8. Jammu and Kashmir Chief Minister Omar Abdullah invited educational institutions in the country to invest in the higher education sector in the Union Territory and partner in developing the region as a vibrant academic hub.

9. Campaigning for the second phase of the West Bengal Assembly Election 2026 has intensified across the state, with star campaigners of various political parties trying to woo voters through rallies, roadshows and public meetings.

10. In Telangana, Kalvakuntla Kavitha has launched a new political party named ‘Telangana Rashtra Sena’ (TRS). Addressing the gathering at Munirabad in the Medchal district, she declared that the party aims to achieve the Social Telangana that was envisioned during the statehood movement but never realized.

11. West Bengal elections: PM Modi Sunday pledged before the Matua Namasudra community that they’ll receive citizenship through the Citizenship Amendment Act (CAA).

12. In Ladakh, first caravan of Ladakhi pilgrims for Hajj 2026 was ceremonially flagged off from Kharul by Additional Deputy Commissioner Kargil, Shabbir Hussain, along with Chairman Hajj Committee Ladakh, Mohd Ali Majaz.

13. The Supreme Court has held that the right to safe travel on National Highways is part of the fundamental Right to Life guaranteed under Article 21 of the Constitution. The ruling highlights that road safety is not merely an administrative concern but a constitutional obligation of the State. The Court emphasised that citizens have the right to travel without facing preventable dangers caused by poor road conditions, illegal parking, or unauthorised roadside structures.

14. The Meteorological Department has issued an Orange alert for severe heatwave conditions in Akola, Amravati and Wardha.

3. Narcotics Control Bureau (NCB) in a joint operation with Assam Rifles and Manipur Police has seized 474 soap cases of heroin worth 11 crore rupees in illicit drug market of Churachandpur in Manipur.

4. Congress leader Pawan Khera has approached the Supreme Court after being denied anticipatory bail, seeking relief in a case linked to his remarks against Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma’s wife.

5. Police in Meerut, Uttar Pradesh, dismantled an illegal arms factory and arrested 11 individuals, seizing pistols and manufacturing equipment in a significant crackdown on illegal arms manufacturing.

1. Defence Minister Rajnath Singh will visit Bishkek, Kyrgyzstan, on April 27–28 to participate in the Defence Ministers’ meeting of the Shanghai Cooperation Organisation (SCO).

2. In Jammu and Kashmir, a Tiranga bike and car rally was organised in Ramban district under the ‘Nasha Mukti Abhiyaan’ to spread awareness about a drug-free society.The rally, organised by the Maitra Company of 23 Rashtriya Rifles.

3. In Assam, the Indian Army organised an All Assam Marathon in Digboi as part of Rongali Bihu celebrations and its ongoing youth outreach initiatives. The event was conducted by the Red Shield Gunners under the aegis of Spear Corps, in coordination with the Digboi Rongali Bihu Utsav Palan Samiti.
