1. India handed over two Personal Watercrafts (PWCs) and safety gear to the Sri Lanka Coast Guard.

*The High Commission of India in Colombo said, the Indian government is assisting in enhancing the Sri Lanka Coast Guard’s capability in near-shore Search and Rescue (SAR). The Defence Advisor of the High Commission handed over the equipment to the Director of Operations in a ceremony held at the Sri Lanka Coast Guard Headquarters in Mirissa.

2. India and New Zealand will sign a Free Trade Agreement (FTA) on April 27, 2026, marking a major step in strengthening bilateral economic ties. The agreement will provide Indian exporters with 100% duty-free access to the New Zealand market, while tariffs on 95% of imports from New Zealand will either be removed or significantly reduced.

3. Veteran Indian businessman Vasu Shroff, widely known as Dubai’s textile king, has passed away at the age of 85. He died at his residence in Satwa.

4. National Security Advisor Ajit Doval met with UAE President Mohamed bin Zayed Al Nahyan to discuss strengthening the comprehensive strategic partnership between India and the UAE.

1. WHO Approves First Malaria Drug for Newborns
The World Health Organization (WHO) has granted prequalification approval to the first malaria treatment specifically designed for newborns and infants. The medicine, artemether-lumefantrine, marks a major step in reducing malaria deaths among the youngest and most vulnerable children, especially in Africa where the disease remains a major public health challenge.

2. The US Department of Justice has said that Cole Allen, the suspect in an attempted assassination of President Donald Trump, will appear in a federal court for an initial hearing.

3. Iran’s Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi returned to Islamabad yesterday as Pakistan’s political and military leadership scrambled to reignite ceasefire talks between Tehran and Washington.

4. Four Palestinians were killed in Israeli firing across the Gaza Strip. According to hospital authorities, two men were shot dead near the Kuwait roundabout in Gaza City, while another man was killed near a mosque in central Gaza.

5. Sixteen people were killed over the weekend in strikes across Ukraine, Russian-occupied territories and Russia, as fighting continues in the prolonged conflict.

Amid the violence, Ukraine marked the 40th anniversary of the Chernobyl nuclear disaster, with President Volodymyr Zelenskyy warning that ongoing attacks near nuclear sites risk a repeat of past catastrophes.
