1. Assembly elections in Tamil Nadu and West Bengal will be held today.
A total of 152 assembly constituencies will go to the polls today in West Bengal under the first phase of Assembly election covering 16 districts. Voting will take place in 44 thousand 376 polling stations including 2 thousand 958 auxiliary booths.
2. The Chief Electoral Officer of Puducherry has directed all establishments in the Union Territory to grant paid leave to employees who are registered as voters in Tamil Nadu and West Bengal to enable them to cast their votes in the Assembly elections. Polling for the Tamil Nadu Legislative Assembly will be held today, while elections in West Bengal will be conducted in two phases-today and on April 29.
3. Shekha Jheel Bird Sanctuary in Aligarh, Uttar Pradesh, has been designated as India’s 99th Ramsar site, marking another major step in the country’s wetland conservation efforts. With this recognition, Uttar Pradesh now has 12 Ramsar sites, the highest among Indian states.
4. In the Union Territory of Ladakh, 33 electric buses have been sanctioned by the Government of India under the PM-eBus Sewa scheme.
The fleet will comprise 7-metre electric buses, specifically suited to Ladakh’s difficult terrain and road conditions.
5. Telangana schools will close for the 2025–26 academic year on Thursday, with a 50-day summer break starting April 24. Schools will reopen on June 12.
6. Tathagata holy sacred relics of Lord Buddha are set to travel to the Union Territory of Ladakh. This marks the first time these holy remains will leave its permanent place for an exhibition within the country.
7. Labour and Employment Minister Dr Mansukh Mandaviya will inaugurate the newly constructed 30-bedded ESIC Hospital in Budgam, Jammu and Kashmir on 24th of this month. The Labour and Employment Ministry said that the facility, which is extendable up to 100 beds, marks a major milestone in enhancing healthcare delivery under the Employees’ State Insurance scheme in the region.
8. In Uttarakhand, the portals of Badrinath Dham, located in Chamoli district will be opened for devotees tomorrow at 6:15 AM. The district administration has made extensive arrangements to ensure a safe pilgrimage for the devotees.
9. Northern Regional Agriculture Conference is scheduled to be held on 24 of this month in Lucknow, Uttar Pradesh. Agriculture and Farmers Welfare Minister Shivraj Chouhan held a meeting with senior officials and issued directions regarding the conference in New Delhi.
10. The nation paid tributes to the victims of the Pahalgam terror attack on its first anniversary yesterday. Last year on this day, 26 people, mostly tourists, were killed by terrorists in Jammu and Kashmir.
The house of Syed Adil Hussain Shah, one of the civilian martyrs in last year’s April 22 terrorist attack in tourist resort of Pahalgam, was inaugurated at a solemn ceremony in the Pahalgam tourist resort area in South Kashmir’s Anantnag district yesterday. The function was attended by senior leaders from Maharashtra.
11. The Atal Pension Yojana (APY) has achieved a significant milestone by surpassing total gross enrollments of nine crore subscribers.

1. Vehicles without a valid Pollution Under Control (PUC) certificate will not get fuel such as Petrol, Diesel, CNG or LPG at fuel stations in Delhi. The Delhi Government has taken this decision to ensure effective control over vehicular pollution in the national capital.
2. India’s online gaming sector will come under a new regulatory framework as the Online Gaming Authority of India (OGAI) becomes operational from May 1, 2026. The authority has been established under the Promotion and Regulation of Online Gaming Act, 2025, with the aim of creating a structured and transparent system for online gaming in the country.

6. The Bombay High Court today discharged four men accused in the 2006 Malegaon blast case and quashed a special court order framing charges against them.
On 8 September 2006, four bombs exploded in Malegaon town in Nashik district, three inside the premises of Hamidia Masjid and Bada Kabrastan just after Friday prayers, and the fourth in Mushawarat Chowk, claiming 31 lives and injuring 312 persons.
7. Supreme Court questions the alleged interference of West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee during the Enforcement Directorate’s probe.
8.. The Supreme Court has held that when a DNA test conclusively establishes that a man is not the biological father of a child, he cannot be directed to pay maintenance, even though the child was born during the subsistence of marriage.

1. Six people died in a road accident after a pickup van overturned in Gujarat’s Valsad district. Ten others were injured and shifted to the Kaprada CHC Centre for treatment.
2. In Jammu and Kashmir, at least 21 people were killed and 29 others injured when a passenger bus rolled down a hill in Udhampur district on 20 April.

1. In Uttar Pradesh, the Indian Air Force conducted a take off and landing exercise on the Purvanchal Expressway in Sultanpur yesterday. The exercise was conducted at the Arval-Kiri Karwat emergency airstrip. Fighter jets like Jaguar, Sukhoi, Mirage and Tejas and C-295 transport aircraft participated in the exercise.
2. Indian Naval Ship INS Nireekshak has arrived at Colombo port in Sri Lanka for an operational turnaround and training visit aimed at strengthening maritime cooperation between the two countries. The visit highlights the growing defence partnership between India and Sri Lanka, particularly in naval coordination and regional maritime security.
3. Commodore Paramjit Singh has assumed charge as the Commanding Officer of INS Hamla, the premier logistics training establishment of the Indian Navy, in a ceremonial parade held on April 21, 2026. He took over from Commodore Raahul Mahajan.
4. Pakistan has announced the successful test of its indigenously developed anti-ship weapon system, the “Taimoor” air-launched cruise missile, just a week after testing an anti-ship ballistic missile.
