1. Repolling in the Falta Assembly constituency of South 24 Parganas district in West Bengal will be held today. Six candidates, including two independents, are in the fray. Trinamool Congress candidate Jahangir Khan withdrew his nomination from the contest. However, his name will remain on the ballot as the deadline for withdrawal of nominations has already passed.

2. West Bengal Chief Minister Suvendu Adhikari announced immediate initiation of deportation proceedings against illegal Bangladeshi infiltrators under the Citizenship (Amendment) Act, or CAA. The Chief Minister made the announcement at state secretariat, Nabanna during a land handover ceremony to the Border Security Force (BSF) for border fencing.

3. Union Road, Transport and Highways Minister Nitin Gadkari chaired a Hindi Advisory Committee meeting of the Ministry in New Delhi.

4. Comptroller and Auditor General (CAG) K. Sanjay Murthy said that both the Competition Commission of India (CCI) and the CAG will play an instrumental role in ensuring that India’s growth remains competitive, innovative and inclusive.

7. Andhra Pradesh is set to commission its first project under the Integrated Clean Energy Policy 2024 in the Rayalaseema region on 22 May 2026. The project is a 600 MW solar power plant developed by SAEL Industries with an investment of ₹3,000 crore.

8. Atal Innovation Mission, NITI Aayog has opened the application process for the establishment of five hundred new Atal Tinkering Labs (ATLs) across Jammu and Kashmir to build a robust innovation ecosystem.

9. Union Minister of State for Social Justice and Empowerment, Ramdas Athawale has said the Central Government is ready to support additional old age homes and welfare facilities for Divyangjan in Goa.

11. Delhi Government announced the launch of the Talent Hunt Scheme- Hauslon ki Udaan 2026-27. Delhi Chief Minister Rekha Gupta said that the initiative aims to identify, nurture and provide a national platform to the hidden talent of Delhi’s youth.

12. A new rail service connecting the border district of Kutch with Rajasthan and the national capital Delhi is set to begin soon. Following a long-pending demand, Western Railway has completed preparations to launch the new train service.

13. An artificial intelligence-powered hyper-realistic 3D avatar of Mahatma Gandhi will be opened for visitors to the Pradhanmantri Sanghralaya (Prime Ministers’ Museum) in Delhi. Visitors will be able to interact with an AI-powered 3D avatar of Mahatma Gandhi, bringing the spirit of Bapu alive through cutting-edge technology.

14. AYUSH Minister Prataprao Jadhav launched the Ayush Anudan Portal in New Delhi, aimed at strengthening digital governance and enhancing transparency in the Ayush sector.

15. The West Bengal Government has notified the ‘Annapurna Yojana’ to provide assured monthly financial assistance of three thousand rupees to women for their socio-economic upliftment. The scheme, introduced by the Department of Women and Child Development and Social Welfare, will come into effect from 1st June 2026.

17. The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has issued a red alert for severe heat wave conditions over parts of Uttar Pradesh, Madhya Pradesh and Vidarbha for the next two to three days. Similar conditions are likely to prevail over Haryana, Chandigarh, Delhi, Punjab, Bihar, Chhattisgarh, Coastal Andhra Pradesh, Himachal Pradesh, Odisha, Rajasthan, Telangana and Uttarakhand.

1. The Supreme Court dismissed a petition challenging the Centre’s decision to undertake caste enumeration as part of the upcoming Census, saying the issue falls within the policy domain of the government.

2. Union Education Minister Dharmendra Pradhan has stressed the need for heightened vigilance and foolproof security arrangements to ensure a safe, secure and fair conduct of the upcoming NEET-UG Re-Examination. Meanwhile, a Delhi court has sent five accused in the NEET paper leak case to judicial custody till 2nd of next month.

3. The investigations into the recent incidents of fire reported in trains have revealed the possible involvement of anti-social elements in several cases. Sources said that the Railway has taken these incidents seriously, and the Railway Protection Force is carrying out intensive investigations into the matter. In an incident near Amarapura station in Rajasthan, an attempt was made by an unidentified individual to set fire to linen materials inside a coach, which led to the outbreak of fire. In a separate case in Howrah, a piece of cloth soaked in petrol was recovered from the bathroom of a train that caught fire.

4. The National Commission for Women (National Commission for Women) has taken suo motu cognisance of the reported suspicious death of a 33-year-old woman from Noida in Bhopal.

5. The Supreme Court dismissed a petition challenging the Centre’s decision to undertake caste enumeration as part of the upcoming Census, saying the issue falls within the policy domain of the government.

6. The Supreme Court sought responses from the Centre, all States and Union Territories on a Public Interest Litigation seeking 30 per cent reservation for women lawyers in government legal panels and law officer appointments.

7. Tamil Nadu’s superstar-turned-Chief Minister Vijay paying tribute to the banned outfit Liberation Tigers of Tamil Eelam (LTTE)’s founder, V Prabhakaran, has triggered a massive controversy.

Defending CM Vijay, sources in his party, Tamilaga Vettri Kazhagam, stressed that his reference was to the massacre of thousands of Tamils in Sri Lanka and not just about Prabhakaran’s death.

8. The Telangana High Court has issued strong directions to the Greater Hyderabad Municipal Corporation (GHMC) and Traffic Police officials to expedite the removal of illegal encroachments on footpaths and pavements across Hyderabad.

1. The multilateral military exercise PRAGATI 2026 commenced yesterday at Umroi Military Station in Meghalaya.

The Defence Ministry said that 12 friendly nations, namely Bhutan, Cambodia, Indonesia, Laos, Malaysia, Maldives, Myanmar, Nepal, Philippines, Seychelles, Sri Lanka and Vietnam are participating in the exercise.

2. India has successfully submerged its decommissioned naval ship INS Guldar off the coast of Sindhudurg in Maharashtra, marking the creation of the country’s first underwater warship museum, artificial coral reef and submarine tourism project.

The ship now rests about 20 to 22 metres below sea level near the Nivati Rock formations.

3. The National Defence Academy (NDA), Khadakwasla, will host the Convocation Ceremony and Passing Out Parade for its prestigious 150th Course on 29 and 30 May 2026. The Convocation Ceremony of the 150th Course will be held on 29 May 2026 at 11:00 am at Habibullah Hall, NDA. Dr. Kiran Bedi, IPS (Retd), former Lieutenant Governor of Puducherry, will grace the occasion as the Chief Guest.
