1. Eid-ul-Fitr 2024 will celebrate the holy festival of Eid today, on 11 April. Eid-Ul-Fitr, also known as Eid-al-Fitr, is celebrated on the first day of the month of Shawwal – the tenth month of the Islamic calendar. Eid means celebrations, while Fitr means breaking of the fast. After a month-long fast during Ramadan, Muslims worldwide celebrate Eid-Ul-Fitr.

1. In Setback for Arvind Kejriwal, Supreme Court won’t hear his appeal. The Supreme Court opens next on Monday, and Arvind Kejriwal’s petition is expected to come up then.

2. 106 government officials in Telangana were suspended by the Election Commission for attending a meeting of the Bharat Rashtra Samithi (BRS) party in violation of the Model Code of Conduct.

3. National Human Rights Commission (NHRC) seeks probe into organ trafficking racket in Haryana, Rajasthan. According to the report, the Health department of Haryana conducted a raid at a hotel in Gurugram Sector-39 and found a Bangladeshi national who had undergone a kidney removal procedure at a hospital in Jaipur under “suspicious” financial arrangements.

4. Calcutta High Court on Wednesday ordered a court-monitored Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) probe into land-grabbing and extortion cases in Sandeshkhali in West Bengal.

5. The National Council of Educational Research and Training (NCERT) has issued a stern warning against copyright infringement of its educational materials, cautioning the public against the unauthorixed printing and commercial sale of NCERT school textbooks.

6. Telangana High Court has issued notices in a public interest litigation challenging the construction of multistorey apartments and villas in 37 acres of land near the LB Nagar Metro Rail station by the Vasavi Group in the name of Ananda Nilayam.

According to the petitioner, the government of undivided Andhra Pradesh had assigned the land to South India Research Institute Private Limited (Siris) and others, under GO MS No. 1213 of the revenue department dated 09-08-1965.
The petitioner also said that as per Memorandum No. 5442-Q2/1965 of the revenue (Q) department, dated 02.03.1966, the land could only be used for public purposes.

Five persons died after drowning in an abandoned well which was used as a biogas pit in Maharashtra’s Ahmednagar district on Tuesday night, The incident took place Wakdi village in Nevasa tehsil on Tuesday evening when a cat had fallen into the pit and one person climbed down to rescue it but ended up getting stuck in the sludge inside. Then to rescue him, five others climbed down one after the other and they also got stuck.

1. Navy Chief Admiral R. Hari Kumar inaugurated a 350m long major pier for Offshore Patrol Vessels (OPVs) and a residential accommodation at Naval Base Karwar on Tuesday. These infrastructure developments are part of the ongoing Phase IIA of Project Seabird, which will accommodate 32 ships and submarines, 23 yardcraft, a dual-use Naval Air Station, a full fledged naval dockyard, four covered dry berths and logistics for ships and aircraft.

2. Union Ministry of Home Affairs (MHA) has ordered the withdrawal of around 5,000 Central Armed Police Forces (CAPF) personnel from Manipur. The two Lok Sabha seats in the violence-hit State will witness polling on 19 April and 26 April.

3. Congress president Mallikarjun Kharge on Wednesday wrote to President Droupadi Murmu against the Centre’s move to “privatise” Sainik schools, and demanded a complete rollback of the policy and the annulment of MoUs signed in this regard.

Kharge said there are 33 Sainik schools in the country and they were fully government-funded institutions operated under the aegis of Sainik Schools Society (SSS), an autonomous body under the Ministry of Defence (MoD).

4. Every year on April 9th, the Central Reserve Police Force (CRPF) celebrates its Bravery Day, or Valour Day, to pay tribute to the brave soldiers who have selflessly served the nation. This year, 2024, marks the 59th anniversary of this significant day.

The origins of CRPF Bravery Day can be traced back to 1965, when a group of Pakistani soldiers launched an attack on Indian troops near the Rann of Kutch. During this encounter, a CRPF officer named Bhavana Ram bravely defended the Sardar Post, a crucial location, against the infiltrators. Though six CRPF soldiers lost their lives in this battle, their unwavering courage and determination forced the Pakistani army to retreat, despite their numerical superiority.
