India’s Paytm (PAYT.NS), opens new tab said on Tuesday that Surinder Chawla had resigned as the chief executive officer and managing director of its banking unit Paytm Payments Bank “on account of personal reasons”.

4. Tata Advanced Systems Ltd (TASL), in collaboration with Satellogic, has successfully launched India’s inaugural private sector-built sub-metre resolution earth observation satellite, TSAT-1A. This significant milestone marks a new era in India’s space endeavors, offering enhanced surveillance capabilities to the country.

The collaboration between TASL and Satellogic resulted in the successful launch of TSAT-1A from the Kennedy Space Center, Florida, aboard Elon Musk’s SpaceX Falcon 9 rocket on 7 April.

1. The Indian Army has received the first batch of Igla-S Man Portable Air Defence Systems (MANPADS) from Russia, part of a larger deal for 120 launchers and 400 missiles. These systems enhance the Army’s Very Short Range Air Defence (VSHORAD) capabilities, particularly in high mountainous terrain along the northern border.

The procurement includes domestic production in India, with one regiment already deploying the systems. This acquisition replaces outdated Igla-1M systems and aligns with plans for future indigenous VSHORAD advancements.

2. Defence Minister Rajnath Singh on Tuesday criticised China for renaming several places in Arunachal Pradesh, and wondered whether a similar attempt by India will result in those areas of the neighbouring country becoming parts of our territory. Addressing an election rally at Namsai in the Arunachal Pradesh East constituency.

3. The Grenadiers Regimental Centre in Madhya Pradesh’s Jabalpur is imparting training to the army soldiers to operate the newly introduced AK-203 rifle, which has been made in India on Indo-Russian technology.

The AK-203 rifle is touted to be much more effective than the previous two rifles–AK-47 and INSAS rifle– and is ahead in firepower.

In a significant milestone for India’s defence capabilities, the Defence Research & Development Organisation (DRDO) announced the successful maiden surface run of a High Endurance Autonomous Underwater Vehicle (HEAUV). The ground breaking test, conducted at the Cochin Shipyard’s International Ship Repair Facility (ISRF) Jetty in Kochi.

7. Theatre Command Concept
A theatre command refers to a geographical area susceptible to conflict, be it on land, air, or sea. With recommendations from the Lt. Gen (Retd) DB Shekatkar committee, India is moving towards establishing integrated theatre commands to consolidate resources and streamline operations. Currently, only two commands—Andaman and Nicobar Command and Strategic Forces Command—are tri-service, but the aim is to create more unified structures across the military.
