1. On 9 July 2026, the Vice Shri President of India, C. P. Radhakrishnan, launched the national programme for the issuance of Letters of Authorisation (LoAs) for Sustainable Harnessing of Fisheries in the High Seas in Bhubaneswar, Odisha. He also launched the Odisha Deep Sea Fishing Mission Document (2026-2036), and the event was organised by the Department of Fisheries, Government of India.

2. Gujarat launched its first Data Centre Policy 2026-29 on 9 July 2026 in Gandhinagar. The policy targets investment of ₹6 lakh crore and a data centre capacity of 7.5 GW. It covers hyperscale data centres, cloud infrastructure, and AI-powered digital services.

3. India launched Awiqli, the world’s first once-weekly basal insulin, on 9 July 2026. The drug contains insulin icodec and is marketed by Danish pharmaceutical company Novo Nordisk. In India, Awiqli is approved for adults with Type 1 diabetes and Type 2 diabetes.

4. India’s peak electricity demand is projected to reach 300 GW in the fiscal year 2027, after touching 271 GW in May 2026. The country’s available generation capacity has risen to 284 GW, while battery energy storage system capacity has increased to 8.7 GWh in the first half of 2026.

5. Indian Railways accelerates modernization projects, including station redevelopment and expansion of Vande Bharat services across more routes.

6. The Uttar Pradesh state government has launched the Chief Minister Teacher Cashless Medical Scheme, it is popularly known as the “Guru Dakshina.” and this name is described by Honourable Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath. This scheme aims to provide the cashless medical treatment to teachers, Shiksha Mitras, instructors, and their families across the state. Under this initiative, the Uttar Pradesh state government will spend around ₹447 crore annually to pay the insurance premium.

7. Srikakulam district in Andhra Pradesh will get a full-fledged airport under the UDAN (Ude Desh Ka Aam Nagarik) scheme. The proposed airport is planned for Mandasa mandal in the Uddanam region, while Palasa has been earmarked for a domestic airport on 1,261 acres.

8. On 9 July 2026, the Indian government waived basic customs duty on goods used in the manufacture of display assemblies, lithium-ion cells, and inductor coil modules. The exemption applies to inputs used in electronics manufacturing and remains valid until 31 March 2029.

9. India’s higher education enrolment reached 4.5 crore in the academic year 2023-24. The figure marked a rise from 3.42 crore in 2014-15, and female enrolment stood at 2.24 crore in 2023-24. The data were placed in the All India Survey on Higher Education for 2022-23 and 2023-24, released by the Union Ministry of Education on 8 July 2026.

1. The Congress on Thursday (July 9, 2026) intensified its attack on the union government over alleged irregularities in the UGC-NET examination, demanding the resignation of Education Minister Dharmendra Pradhan and the disbanding of the National Testing Agency (NTA).

2. The Delhi High Court quashed the Union government’s recognition of Yogasana Bharat as the National Sports Federation (NSF) for Yogasana, holding that the decision was contrary to the National Sports Development Code and suffered from non-application of mind.

3. The National Testing Agency (NTA) has given NEET UG 2026 candidates another opportunity to confirm, correct or update their bank account details to receive the refund of the examination fee following the cancellation of the exam held on 3 May 2026.

4. The Ken-Betwa River Linking project, India’s first river interlinking initiative, is being built in Madhya Pradesh’s Bundelkhand region. Centred on the proposed Dodhan dam, the project has raised serious environmental and social concerns because of its location inside the Panna Tiger Reserve and its impact on villages in Chhatarpur and Panna districts.

5. The Telangana high court on Thursday granted regular bail to Bandi Bhagirath, the son of union minister of state for home Bandi Sanjay Kumar in a case registered under the Protection of Children from Sexual Offences (POCSO) Act.

1. Indian Armed Forces continue to strengthen border surveillance with advanced drones, AI-based monitoring systems, and infrastructure upgrades along sensitive frontiers.

2. The Defence Acquisition Council (DAC) cleared major capability enhancement proposals for the Army, Navy, and Air Force, with a heavy emphasis on drone technology and air defence systems.

3. India’s annual defence production surged to an all-time high of ₹1.78 lakh crore for the 2025-26 fiscal period, cementing the government’s Aatmanirbhar (self-reliance) goals.

4. India is in advanced talks with the UAE to export BrahMos supersonic missiles and Akashteer air defence systems, closely following a major strategic and military pact signed with Indonesia.

5. India is actively strengthening the Quad alliance and reinforcing maritime security across the Indo-Pacific in response to increased missile tests and military posturing in the South China Sea.

6. The Indian Army is enhancing force readiness near the Line of Actual Control (LAC) and intensifying counter-terror operations in Jammu and Kashmir, including joint operations that recently resulted in the elimination of heavily armed militants.

1. The Employees Provident Fund Organisation (EPFO) has launched its upgraded Centralised IT Enabled Services (CITES 2.01) platform, it is the biggest transformation in the history of organization. This new system migrates nearly 340 million member accounts from over 120 decentralised databases to the unified national platform, it enables the faster claim settlements, improved member services, and seamless access to the provident fund records. Alongside the launch, the government has also announced that the FY2025–26 EPF interest at 8.25% will be directly credited to members accounts by July 15, 2026.

2. The Reserve Bank of India (RBI) has approved appointment of Mahesh Muralidhar Pai as the new Managing Director and Chief Executive Officer (MD & CEO) of the South Indian Bank for the three year term which will begin from 1st of October, 2026. This move is expected to bring experienced leadership to the Thrissur-headquartered bank.

1. Tamil Nadu Chief Minister C. Joseph Vijay’s highly anticipated film, ‘Jana Nayagan,’ has finally been granted an ‘A’ certificate by the CBFC.

The film, directed by H Vinoth — known for works such as ‘Theeran Adhigaaram Ondru’ and ‘Nerkonda Paarvai’ — received its censor certificate after a protracted seven-month battle.
