1. The Prize Distribution Function of the 17th National Youth Parliament Competition, 2024-25 for Universities and Colleges will be held in New Delhi today.

2. 125th birth anniversary of Shyama Prasad Mukherjee celebrated yesterday. On this occasion, Union Home Minister Amit Shah joined a chain of events in Kolkata. Syama Prasad Mookerjee (6 July 1901 – 23 June 1953) was an Indian barrister, educationalist, politician, Hindutva activist, and a minister in the state and national governments.

3. Jammu and Kashmir: Authorities have opened three gates of the Baglihar Dam in Ramban district after a sharp increase in water levels in the Chenab River triggered by persistent rainfall across parts of the Doda-Kishtwar region.

4. Punjab launched the Post-Matric Scholarship Scheme for Scheduled Caste students for the 2026-27 academic session. The application process began on 1 July 2026 through the National Scholarship Portal, and eligible students can apply until 15 November 2026.

5. West Bengal approved the implementation of the Pradhan Mantri Cha Shramik Protsahan Yojana (PMCSPY) on 5 July 2026 for tea garden workers in North Bengal. The state sanctioned ₹313.30 crore for education, healthcare, and welfare infrastructure under the scheme.

6. Union Home and Cooperation Minister Amit Shah announced a plan to establish a cooperative life insurance company on 6 July 2026 in New Delhi during the 5th Foundation Day celebration of the Ministry of Cooperation. The initiative is linked to the cooperative sector, insurance distribution, and the expansion of cooperative institutions in India.

7. The Ministry of Cooperation has completed five years of its journey with a renewed focus on strengthening India’s cooperative movement.

*Marking its fifth Foundation Day with the vision of Sahakar Se Samriddhi yesterday in New Delhi, the Ministry highlighted major achievements, including the digital transformation of Primary Agricultural Credit Societies, expansion of rural cooperative infrastructure, and new initiatives aimed at boosting dairy, agriculture, banking, and rural livelihoods.

8. Telangana State government employees and pensioners will contribute 1.5 per cent of their basic pay or basic pension towards the Employees Health Scheme (EHS) Fund from salaries and pensions payable from June, according to orders issued by the finance department on Monday.

9. Arunachal Pradesh launched emergency helicopter operations on 4 July 2026 to airlift food and medical supplies to flood-hit villages in Lower Siang district. The operation used a state-owned Skyone Airways Mi-172 helicopter to move relief materials from Pasighat Advanced Landing Ground in East Siang district to Koyu helipad in Lower Siang district.

10. Union Railways Minister Ashwini Vaishnaw yesterday virtually inaugurated a new train service between Tanakpur in Uttarakhand and Hazur Sahib at Nanded in Maharashtra, along with the extension of the Tanakpur-Pilibhit rail service up to Shahjahanpur.

11. The Ministry of Tribal Affairs will organise a two-day National Workshop on Strengthening Tribal Research Institutes (TRIs) from today in Bhubaneswar, Odisha. Union Minister of Tribal Affairs, Jual Oram, will inaugurate the workshop. The workshop will bring together around 200 participants.

12. Envoys of 6 nations present credentials to the President of India: President Smt. Droupadi Murmu yesterday accepted credentials from the envoys of Mozambique, Nicaragua, Suriname, Gabonese Republic, Mongolia and Bahamas at a ceremony held at Rashtrapati Bhavan.

13. President Smt Droupadi Murmu, Vice President Shri C P Radhakrishnan and Prime Minister Narendra Modi have expressed grief over the demise of the renowned Pandavani singer Teejan Bai yesterday.
(8 August 1956 – 5 July 2026) Legendary Pandavani singer Teejan Bai, acclaimed for elevating Chhattisgarh’s folk art, passes away at 70 after a prolonged illness.

14. The Chief Labour Commissioner (Central) Organisation has strengthened labour welfare and industrial harmony across the country through sustained awareness programmes, effective grievance redressal mechanisms and timely conciliation efforts.

15. The India Meteorological Department has issued red alert for heavy to very heavy rainfall, with isolated extremely heavy rainfall, over Gujarat, Konkan, Goa, Madhya Maharashtra and Chhattisgarh.

The IMD has also forecast heavy to very heavy rainfall over East Rajasthan, Himachal Pradesh, Karnataka, Kerala, Mahe, Madhya Pradesh and Uttarakhand during the next two days.

1. The Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) on Monday arrested project director of the National Highways Authority of India (NHAI), Shillong, along with two others for demanding a Rs 12 lakh bribe from a contractor to clear a pending payment of Rs 13.38 crore.

2. The Allahabad High Court today refused to entertain a Public Interest Litigation (PIL) plea seeking a CBI probe into the Ram Mandir donation row, noting a similar plea with similar prayers has already been filed before the Supreme Court.

3. The CBI conducted searches at 26 locations across 11 states and Union Territories while investigating alleged financial irregularities in Border Roads Organisation projects. The probe involves suspected diversion of funds through fictitious labour payments and names 10 officials and private individuals.

4. The Delhi High Court on Monday ordered the Wrestling Federation of India (WFI) to decide in two weeks the show cause notice issued to wrestler Vinesh Phogat which bars her from participation in domestic competitions and accusing her of indiscipline and anti-doping rule violations.

5. A Kerala court has ordered the registration of an FIR against Malayalam actor Lakshmi Priya, her husband and a woman police officer after actor Ansiba Hassan alleged she was illegally detained, emotionally harassed and forced to apologise at a women’s police cell in Kochi.

6. The Shri Ram Janmabhoomi Teerth Kshetra Trust accepted the resignations of General Secretary Champat Rai and Trust member Dr Anil Mishra. Both had stepped down after their names surfaced in the alleged Ram Temple donation embezzlement case.

The National Human Rights Commission has issued a notice to the Chief Secretary of Karnataka over the reported death of seven migrant labourers when a massive granite rock fell on them at a quarry in Bengaluru, Karnataka.

The Commission has observed that if the contents of the news report are true, then it raises a serious issue of violation of human rights. The incident took place last week in Bengaluru.

1. The Indian Navy will commission its sixth Project 17A indigenous stealth frigate, Mahendragiri (F38), at Visakhapatnam on Saturday. The commissioning of Mahendragiri marks another milestone in the successful execution of the Project 17A programme.

2. Adani Defence & Aerospace laid the foundation stone for a ₹2,500 crore missile manufacturing facility in Pali, Shivpuri district, Madhya Pradesh, on 5 July 2026. The project is planned as a private-sector missile ecosystem for medium and long-range missile systems.

3. India and Japan have signed an agreement for the co-development of a naval radio antenna based on Japan’s UNICORN system.The announcement was made during the visit of Japanese Prime Minister Sanae Takaichi to India, marking a significant milestone in bilateral defence cooperation.

4. The Indian Navy has introduced the Containerised Towed and Lift Sonar (CTLS) initiative, marking a decisive shift towards a ship‑agnostic, networked Anti‑Submarine Warfare (ASW) grid.

5. China’s PLA Navy has confirmed the successful launch of a strategic missile from a nuclear-powered submarine into the Pacific Ocean on 6 July 2026, marking its second such test in international waters since 2024.

6. India has continued to extend vital humanitarian assistance to Venezuela in the aftermath of the devastating earthquakes under Operation Amistad.The Ministry of External Affairs confirmed that the Indian Army Field Hospital remains actively engaged in relief operations across affected regions, providing emergency medical care and support to survivors.

1. The Reserve Bank of India (RBI) said the Government of India will auction 32,000 crore rupees worth of dated government securities on July 10 to raise funds, with settlement scheduled for July 13.

The auction comprises the re-issue of two government securities-6.36 percent Government Security (GS) 2031 for a notified amount of Rs 21,000 crore and 7.71 percent GS 2066 for Rs 11,000 crore.

2. Office of Principal Controller of Communication Accounts, Delhi, will hold a Pension Adalat on 6th of next month in New Delhi for the resolution of grievances of the pensioners.
