1. BJP Rajya Sabha MP Dinesh Sharma has been appointed Lt Governor of Andaman and Nicobar Islands. Dr Sharma will succeed Admiral D K Joshi (retd), who took over as Lieutenant Governor of Andaman and Nicobar Islands on October 8, 2017.

2. The CBI has registered a criminal case against Essel Group founder Subhash Chandra and several entities linked to the group over an alleged Rs 1,322-crore fraud involving LIC Housing Finance Ltd (LICHFL), marking a major escalation in the legal troubles surrounding the businessman.

3. The National Board of Examinations in Medical Sciences (NBEMS) has successfully conducted the NEET-PG 2026 examination for the affected candidates of the iON Digital Zone, Sitapura test centre in Jaipur.

4. Union Commerce and Industry Minister Piyush Goyal inaugurated the second skill development centre at Kandivali in North Mumbai. He announced plans to establish more such centres across North Mumbai and organise job fairs in collaboration with companies and industrial associations.

5. The Central Government has formally deferred the house-listing operations for Census 2027 in Manipur until further declaration, according to a notification issued by the Ministry of Home Affairs.

*The notification issued by the Office of the Registrar General of India amended the earlier Census 2027 notification dated January 7, 2026 by inserting amendment words ” except the State of Manipur till further declaration” in reference to house-listing operations in all State and UT.

6. More than 1,850 candidates from different political parties have filed nominations for the upcoming ADC Village Committee elections in Tripura since September 1.

7. In Tamil Nadu, the Directorate of Vigilance and Anti-Corruption (DVAC) is conducting searches at the residences and premises linked to former Minister K.N.Nehru in Thillai Nagar, Tiruchirappalli. During the searches, DMK cadres gathered outside Nehru’s residence.

8. National Commission for Scheduled Castes (NCSC) has sought a time-bound response over complaints regarding the denial of reservation benefits to Schedule caste candidates in the recruitment process for Lecturer posts in Punjab.

9. In the occasion of Teachers’ Day yesterday, 79 teachers from Haryana were honoured at a state-level award ceremony held in Panchkula. The Chief Guest, Governor Prof. Asim Kumar Ghosh, and the Guest of Honour, Chief Minister Nayab Singh Saini, presented awards.

10. Floods continue to affect normal life in several parts of Bihar. The Ganga and several other major rivers are flowing above the danger mark at various places. The administration has intensified relief and rescue operations on a war footing to assist the affected people.

11. The Special Intensive Revision (SIR) of the electoral rolls has begun in Tripura today. The initial phase includes training and planning, with Booth Level Officers (BLOs) holding meetings with Booth Level Agents of various political parties and briefing them on their responsibilities during the house-to-house verification process.

National Investigation Agency’s special court in Jagdalpur has convicted all ten accused in the Jheeram Valley Maoist attack case under various charges. A total of eleven accused were tried in the case, of whom one died during the trial.

Three people were killed and over 100 injured in separate incidents related to Dahi Handi celebrations in Maharashtra. In Mumbai, a seven-year-old boy died after a brick column collapsed on him during a local Dahi Handi celebration in Malvani.

In Mumbai, 118 people were admitted or treated for injuries, with five admitted, 80 under treatment and 33 discharged, while 10 people were injured in Thane.

2. In Keralam, eight people, believed to be students from neighbouring Tamil Nadu, have been killed in a tragic road accident in Thrissur district. Police said the accident occurred last night when the car in which the youths were travelling collided with a lorry parked on the highway at Panambikkunnu in Kaipamangalam. All eight people in the car died on the spot.

1. A Japanese JASDF contingent has arrived in Jodhpur for Exercise Veer Guardian 2026, scheduled for 9–22 September. The exercise will strengthen interoperability between the Indian and Japanese air forces.

2. Adani Defence & Aerospace has signed a five-year agreement with Indo-Russian Rifles Pvt Ltd to supply domestically manufactured 7.62×39 mm ammunition for India-made AK-203 assault rifles. The deal supports India’s defence self-reliance drive.

3. In Manipur, the Central Reserve Police Force (CRPF) organised Marathon races today in different parts of the State with the objective of promoting physical fitness, sportsmanship, healthy lifestyle and greater community participation through sports.

232 (M) Battalion CRPF organised a 10 KM Marathon at Football ground in Motbung of Kangpokpi district .

4. In Manipur, two cadres of outlaw armed group United Kuki National Army (UKNA) were killed and two others injured in an operation jointly conducted by Indian Army and Assam Rifles team in the jungle area of Churachandpur district.

5. The Passing Out Parade (POP) at the Officers Training Academy, Chennai, was held on 5 September 2026 for the 122nd Short Service Commission (SSC) Course and 36th SSC (Women) Course.
🎖️ 342 officer cadets were commissioned into the Indian Army.
👩‍✈️ 29 were women officers.
🌍 17 officer cadets from friendly foreign countries, including 10 women, also completed their training.

1. On 5 September 2026, ICICI Bank stated in a regulatory filing that the Reserve Bank of India had approved the Life Insurance Corporation of India to acquire an aggregate holding of up to 9.99% in the bank. The approval letter was received by ICICI Bank on 4 September 2026 at 9:09 PM, and the RBI set a validity period of one year from the date of the letter for completion of the acquisition.
