1. All preparations are in place for counting of votes for the Assembly Elections in four states – West Bengal, Keralam, Tamil Nadu, Assam, and the Union Territory of Puducherry to be held today. The counting will begin at 8 in the morning. Counting of postal ballots will be taken up first, and counting of Electronic Voting Machines will start at 8.30 am.

2. Voting for all 126 seats in Assam, 140 in Keralam and 30 seats in Puducherry was held on the 9th of April. Polling for all 234-Assembly constituencies in Tamil Nadu and for the first phase in West Bengal, covering 152 seats, was held on the 23rd of April. Voting for the second phase in West Bengal took place on the 29th of last month for 142 constituencies.

3. Vice President CP Radhakrishnan has congratulated GalaxEye on the successful launch of Mission Drishti, the world’s first OptoSAR imaging satellite and the largest privately built satellite in India.

4. The Ministry of Health and Family Welfare, in collaboration with all States and Union Territories and relevant Central Ministries and Departments, will observe a pan-India ‘Fire Safety Week’ from today to raise awareness on the importance of prevention and mitigation of fire hazards across healthcare facilities in the country.

5. The government has released the Guidance Document on Diabetes Mellitus in Children. The Document was released at the recently concluded National Summit on Best Practices in Public Healthcare Service Delivery.

6. The Ministry of Panchayati Raj will organise a two-day National Workshop on the Preparation of Panchayat Development Plans from today in New Delhi.

7. The All India Institute of Medical Sciences, AIIMS, has developed a new surgical technique that is being seen as a major breakthrough in treating severe spinal deformities. In a statement, AIIMS said the procedure has been used over the past seven years, offering hope to patients who earlier faced very high surgical risks and limited treatment options.

8. Andhra Pradesh Water Resources Minister N. Rama Naidu said the state government has released 397 crore rupees for canal repairs, desilting and maintenance works ahead of the upcoming Kharif season.

9. The Government Appoints Two Full-Time Members to NITI Aayog: PM Modi has congratulated Dr. R. Balasubramaniam and Dr. Joram Aniya on being appointed as Full-time Members of NITI Aayog.

10. Amid heatwave conditions in the National Capital, Delhi Chief Minister Rekha Gupta said that all labourers across the government and private sectors must be given a break between 1 PM and 4 PM.

12. Srinagar, the summer capital of Jammu and Kashmir, is getting a facelift ahead of the ‘Darbar Move’, a 150-year-old practice of bi-annual shifting of the administrative capital, with workers busy sprucing up roads and walkways.

Under the practice of ‘Darbar Move’, the government functions in Jammu during the six winter months and in Srinagar during the summer. The practice was started by Maharaja Gulab Singh in 1872 to escape extreme weather conditions in the two regions.

1. The Congress on Sunday (May 3, 2026) demanded the immediate of the April 28 circular issued by the Ministry of Minority Affairs, which requires Haj pilgrims to make an additional payment by May 15th, alleging that the circular was issued without justification or prior consultation and was a result of mismanagement by the government.

2. National Highway Authority advises fixing FASTag on windscreen for smooth toll scanning, less congestion, and to prevent misuse; handheld tags risk delays and blacklisting.

FASTag is an electronic toll collection system in India that uses Radio Frequency Identification (RFID) technology to automatically deduct toll charges.

3. The Telangana Renewable Energy Development Corporation Limited has invited landowners, commercial establishments, and institutions to submit Expressions of Interest (EOIs) for setting up Electric Vehicle Charging Stations (EVCS) across the state, extending the deadline to May 7, 2026.

4. The Ministry of Electronics and IT refuted news reports and social media posts saying Aadhaar’s look may change by the end of this year to just a photo and a QR code alone. In a clarification on Sunday, the Ministry said there is no plan for any such changes. It said such news reports and social media posts are creating unwanted confusion in the minds of the people. People have been advised to ignore such reports and social media posts, and refer to official communication from UIDAI.

5. The Election Commission has taken the extraordinary step of canceling the entire voting process in the Falta Assembly constituency of the South 24 Parganas district, West Bengal. Fresh polling will be held on the 21st of this month across all 285 polling stations, including auxiliary booths. The counting of votes will be held on the 24th of May.

6. Maharashtra Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis has assured that the state government is taking all necessary steps to ensure strict punishment for the accused of rape and murder of a minor girl in Nasrapur in Pune district. He called it a serious incident, adding that efforts are underway to conduct the trial in a fast-track court.

7. Suspected militants triggered a bomb explosion in Imphal West district near the Imphal airport on Sunday, the third anniversary of ethnic conflict between Meitei and Kuki communities in the state.

1. The Indian Army is set to host military delegations from 11 friendly countries for the inaugural edition of the multilateral exercise ‘Pragati’ at the Foreign Training Node in Umroi, Meghalaya from May 18 to 31.

2. Defence Minister Rajnath Singh will inaugurate a North Tech Symposium, on the theme ‘Raksha Triveni Sangam – Where Technology, Industry & Soldiering Converge’, in Prayagraj, Uttar Pradesh, on Monday. The three-day event is being jointly organised by the Northern Command and Central Command of the Indian Army and the Society of Indian Defence Manufacturers (SIDM).

3. The Indian Army contingent has departed to Cambodia for the second edition of India-Cambodia Bilateral Military Exercise CINBAX-II. In a social media post, Additional Directorate General of Public Information of Indian Army said that the exercise is scheduled to be conducted at Techo Sen Phnom Thom Mreas Prov Royal Cambodian Air Force Training Centre (Camp Basil), from 04 to 17 of this month.

4. Indian Navy chief Admiral Dinesh K Tripathi met Myanmar Navy’s Central Naval Command commander Rear Admiral Aung Aung Naing and Naval Training Command chief Rear Admiral Khun Aung Kyaw in Yangon on Sunday and discussed strengthening navy-to-navy cooperation, bolstering the existing defence partnership and augmenting operational engagements.

5. Rear Admiral Sameer Sanjay Pote, YSM, assumed charge as the 19th Flag Officer Submarines (FOSM) of the Indian Navy on May 1, 2026. He took over the prestigious appointment from Rear Admiral Chetan C Chandegave.

1. Real ‘PadMan’: A
Social entrepreneur Arunachalam Muruganantham, who is famously known as the ‘PadMan,’ claimed that he has been listed as a nominee for the 2026 Nobel Peace Prize.

He was also the inspiration behind Akshay Kumar-starrer PadMan. Directed by R Balki, the film also featured Radhika Apte and Sonam Kapoor. It was released on 2018, and went on to win the National Film Award for Best Film on Other Social Issues.

2. The Hyderabad Metropolitan Water Supply and Sewerage Board has denied a request for 150 water tankers for shooting of celebrated movie maker SS Rajamouli’s much publicized film ‘Varanasi’.

These huge quantities of water was for filming underwater sequences at Hyderabad Film City Studio in Gaganpahad of Rajendranagar, where shooting is underway.
