1. Supreme Court observed that if the meritorious candidates from the reserved category had not availed any reservation benefit/relaxation, then such reserved category candidates would be treated at par with unreserved/general category candidates on the strength of their marks.

2. The Telangana Police announced the closure of its inquiry into the tragic demise of University of Hyderabad (UoH) student Rohith Vemula, claiming that he was not a Dalit and alluded that his death by suicide had been driven by apprehensions about his “real identity” being revealed.

Meanwhile, the state’s Director-General of Police (DGP) Ravi Gupta, ordered further investigation into the matter on Friday and announced plans to petition the court for permission to reopen the suicide case.

4. The Supreme Court forewarned the Enforcement Directorate (ED) on Friday that it may “consider” granting interim bail to Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal in the excise policy case due to the ongoing Lok Sabha election.

The Delhi High Court on Thursday granted bail to three men, Shoaib Alam, Gulfam and Javed, accused in the murder case of Intelligence Bureau (IB) staffer Ankit Sharma during the 2020 North-East Delhi riots.Justice Navin Chawla however dismissed the bail plea moved by other accused, Nazim, in the case. Former Aam Aadmi Party Councillor Tahir Hussain is the prime accused in the case.

6. The Calcutta High Court recently refused to grant bail to West Bengal’s former Education Minister Partha Chatterjee in a money laundering case connected to the school jobs for cash scam.

7. The NIA filed a chargesheet against four CPI-Maoist cadres in a case relating to firing at the commandos of the Special Operations Group (SOG) of the Kerala Police at Thalappuzha in Wayanad district in November last year. Those chargesheeted include two absconders in the case.

8. Delhi police’s special cell on Friday arrested a national coordinator of the Congress’ social media team for allegedly uploading and circulating online a doctored video of Union Home Minister Amit Shah.

Arun Beereddy (37), a native of Telangana’s Hyderabad, was arrested from Delhi. He handles the ‘Spirit of Congress’ account on X, the official said.
