1. Indian High Commissioner to Australia, Gopal Baglay on Monday called on the Australian Foreign Minister, Penny Wong and discussed a wide range of bilateral cooperation between India and Australia.

2. Addressing the controversy surrounding Nepal’s depiction of certain Indian territories on its currency notes, External Affairs Minister (EAM) S Jaishankar highlighted the complexities of managing relationships with neighbouring countries.Jaishankar acknowledged that dealing with neighbouring nations often involves navigating political intricacies.

3. External Affairs Minister S Jaishankar reiterated that India will get a permanent member seat at the United Nations Security Council and this would happen faster if the country has a Prime Minister to whom no one can say ‘no’.

India has long sought a permanent seat in the Security Council to better represent the interests of the developing world. The nation’s quest has gained momentum with support from the international community.

4. Indian-American astronaut Sunita Williams is set to go to space for the third time as she launches onboard Boeing’s Starliner spacecraft. The spacecraft will launch on its first crewed mission to the International Space Station (ISS) at 8:04 am IST on 7 May.

1. An International Monetary Fund (IMF) mission is set to visit Pakistan this month regarding a new loan program and to discuss policies and reforms.

2. China’s Chang’e-6 spacecraft launched on 3 May 2024 on a mission to collect samples from the far side of the Moon. The mission aims to grab samples containing material ejected from the lunar mantle and thus provide insight into the history of the Moon, Earth, and Solar System.

3. Criticising the mistreatment by the authorities in Pakistan and Iran, the Afghan migrants who have been forcibly deported from the nations have called for international attention to their plight there.

4. Russia plans to hold drills simulating the use of tactical nuclear weapons, Tactical nuclear weapons have a lower yield compared to massive warheads that arm intercontinental ballistic missiles intended to obliterate entire cities. The Russian Defence Ministry announced Monday, days after the Kremlin reacted angrily to comments by senior Western officials about the war in Ukraine.

5. Australia has agreed to boost its security cooperation with the United States, Japan and the Philippines, in response to China’s growing assertiveness in the South China Sea.

6. Japan’s Minister for Foreign Affairs, Kamikawa Yoko, arrived in Kathmandu on Sunday on an official visit to Nepal. The Minister arrived at the cordial invitation of Deputy Prime Minister and Minister for Foreign Affairs, Narayan Kaji Shrestha. Both countries will Bilateral Talks.

7. The death toll from torrential rains in southern Brazil’s Rio Grande do Sul has risen to 60 while thousands are still stranded. Rescue officials said another 67 people are missing.

8. Frank Shrontz, who led Boeing as its Chief Executive Officer for a decade from 1986 to 1996, has passed away at the age of 92. Shrontz died on 3 May 2024.
