1. PM Modi said the 21st century is the century of India and ASEAN. Addressing the ASEAN-India Summit virtually, which is being held in Malaysia, PM Modi underlined that India and ASEAN together represent almost a quarter of the world’s population.
2. External Affairs Minister S Jaishankar will represent India at the 20th East Asia Summit in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia, today.
3. India and ASEAN have recognised that tourism is an effective way to enhance people-to-people contacts between the two. In a Joint statement, they both reaffirmed the commitment to promote sustainable tourism guided by green, blue and circular economy principles that are pro-planet.
4. A bust of Nobel Laureate Rabindranath Tagore was unveiled at the Indian Embassy in Beijing today. The sculpture has been carved by the famous Chinese sculptor Yuan Xikun.

1. Ukraine and Sweden have sealed a landmark defence agreement for the purchase of 150 SAAB Gripen-E fighter aircraft, marking the largest combat aircraft procurement in Ukraine’s history.President Volodymyr Zelensky hailed the deal as a “historic step” aimed at bolstering Ukraine’s air defence and operational capabilities amid the ongoing conflict with Russia.
2. US President Donald Trump has announced a 10 per cent rise in tariffs on Canadian imports, intensifying economic tensions between the two neighbours. The decision came after he accused Canada of airing a “fraudulent” advertisement featuring former United States President Ronald Reagan during the MLB World Series.
3. In Bangladesh, Pakistan’s Joint Chiefs of Staff Committee Chairman General Sahir Shamshad Mirza called on Chief Adviser Professor Muhammad Yunus in Dhaka yesterday. They discussed a wide range of issues concerning Bangladesh-Pakistan relations, including growing importance of bilateral trade, investment, and defence cooperation.
4. Russian President Vladimir Putin announced the successful test of a unique nuclear-powered ‘Burevestnik’ cruise missile with unlimited range and ordered the armed forces to prepare infrastructure for its deployment.
5. Pakistan and Afghanistan held the second round of talks in Istanbul to establish a joint monitoring and oversight mechanism to curb terrorist movements across the border.
