1. Pilgrims undertaking the Kailash Mansarovar Yatra this year will be permitted to carry up to 20 kg of essential goods per person into Chinese territory. The first batch of the pilgrimage is scheduled to depart from New Delhi on June 30 and will arrive at the Dharchula base camp on July 5 for an overnight stay. Pilgrims will also be allowed to carry essential medicines to manage 20 different ailments while inside Tibet.

2. India has strongly criticized Pakistani Defence Minister Khawaja Asif’s remarks over the situation in Pakistan-occupied Kashmir, saying these remarks are desperate attempts by the neighbouring country to cover up its own failings and deflect attention away from its human rights abuses.

3. National Security Adviser Ajit Doval underlined to Chinese Foreign Minister Wang Yi that stable, predictable and constructive bilateral relations will contribute to enhanced trust and deeper understanding between the two sides.

4. Queen Maxima of the Netherlands, in her capacity as UN Secretary-General’s Special Advocate for Financial Health (UNSGSA), visited Mumbai to understand India’s UPI ecosystem and payroll-linked financial infrastructure to improve financial wellbeing of salaried individuals.

6. The 16th BRICS National Security Advisers’ Meeting was held in New Delhi yesterday where the NSAs and Heads of Delegation from BRICS member countries exchanged views on security challenges confronting the world.

7. India and the United States opened high-level trade talks
to salvage and recalibrate a proposed bilateral trade agreement after changes in US tariff policy disrupted a framework negotiated earlier this year. Commerce and Industry Minister Piyush Goyal met United States Trade Representative Jamieson Greer and US Ambassador to India Sergio Gor in New Delhi. Both sides are aiming to conclude an interim trade pact before 24th July.

1. US Secretary of State Marco Rubio said lasting peace and stability in West Asia cannot be achieved as long as Iranian-backed proxy groups continue launching attacks and engaging in militant activities across the region.

2. United Nations Secretary-General Antonio Guterres called on artificial intelligence companies to release information about the carbon pollution they create, along with the water and land used to power their operations. Addressing at London Climate Action Week.

3. Ukraine said its forces struck a railway bridge, a power plant and other key infrastructure targets in Crimea. Kyiv said its military authorities seek to isolate the vital Russian-held peninsula.

4. The Commission for the Investigation of Abuse of Authority (CIAA) has filed a case of corruption against 16 individuals, including the Director General of the Department of Passport, Tirtharaj Aryal, at the special court in Kathmandu, Nepal.

5. The United States has temporarily lifted major sanctions on Iran, authorizing the production, delivery and sale of Iranian-origin crude oil, petroleum and petrochemical products. The 60-day general license issued by the US Treasury Department remains in effect through August 21 and aligns with the timeline of an interim agreement aimed at securing a final peace deal between Washington and Tehran.

6. Several human rights organisations and activists have strongly condemned the life imprisonment of four Baloch activists, including Mahrang Baloch. They described the verdict as a blatant miscarriage of justice and an act of judicial terrorism by Pakistan. The criticism followed a ruling by a Pakistani Anti-Terrorism Court, which sentenced the four activists to life imprisonment in a case linked to the killing of a Frontier Corps official.
