1. Indian Defence Minister Rajnath Singh and South Korean Minister of Patriots and Veterans Affairs Kwon Oh-eul inaugurated the Indian War Memorial at Imjingak Park near Seoul on 21 May 2026. The memorial marks the 75th anniversary of the Korean War and commemorates the service of the 60 Para Field Ambulance and the Custodian Force of India.
2. U.S. Secretary of State Marco Rubio will pay his first visit to India between May 23 and 26, the U.S. State Department said. The visit will be closely watched as it comes against the backdrop of the U.S.’s continued engagement in hostilities in the Persian Gulf region, which have had consequences for India’s energy security.
3. India-Africa Forum Summit Postponed Over Ebola Outbreak: Fourth India-Africa Forum Summit was scheduled for New Delhi from 28 May to 31 May 2026. India and the African Union postponed the summit on 21 May 2026 because of an evolving public health situation in parts of Africa. The health situation refers to an Ebola outbreak in the Democratic Republic of Congo and Uganda.
4. PM Modi visited the United Arab Emirates, the Netherlands, Sweden, Norway and Italy from 15 May to 20 May 2026. The tour produced investment commitments for India worth nearly US$40 billion across energy, technology, defence, shipping and manufacturing sectors.
5. President of Cyprus Nikos Christodoulides today visited the National Stock Exchange in Mumbai and participated in the traditional bell-ringing ceremony.

1. The United Arab Emirates has built nearly 50% of a second pipeline that will bypass the Strait of Hormuz, said the CEO of Abu Dhabi National Oil Co., or ADNOC.
2. The World Health Organization has noted that a total of 650 suspected cases, including 144 deaths, linked to the rare Bundibugyo strain of Ebola have been reported in the Democratic Republic of the Congo and Uganda as of May 21.
3. Amnesty International has accused Pakistani authorities of enabling structural and persistent discrimination against the Ahmadiyya community and warning of escalating repression.
4. The UK has signed a trade agreement with six Gulf nations, in what is described as a huge win for British business.
The deal with the Gulf Co-operation Council (GCC), comprising Bahrain, Kuwait, Oman, Qatar, Saudi Arabia and the United Arab Emirates, is expected to eliminate around 580 million pounds in annual tariffs on British exports once fully in force.
5. Sri Lanka’s currency has come under renewed pressure, with the rupee emerging as Asia’s worst-performing currency this month amid rising global uncertainty and concerns over the country’s external sector.
According to the latest exchange rates issued by the Central Bank of Sri Lanka, the US dollar’s selling rate climbed to 354 rupees today, up sharply from 342.70 rupees a day earlier.
