1. Indian jurist Bimal N. Patel was elected as a Judge of the International Tribunal for the Law of the Sea (ITLOS) on 19 June 2026. He secured 115 votes out of 168 valid votes cast by member states at the United Nations Headquarters in New York during the 36th Meeting of States Parties to the United Nations Convention on the Law of the Sea (UNCLOS).

1. A suspected case of H5 bird flu was confirmed in a migratory wild seabird in Western Australia on 19 June 2026.
2. A new round of direct peace talks between United States and Iran postponed amid killing of 21 people in Israeli strike on Lebanon; Israel and Hezbolllah later agree to ceasefire.
3. Peace talks between the US and Iran were called off today after intense fighting between Israel and Hezbollah in southern Lebanon killing 21 people. Iranian officials didn’t travel as planned to Switzerland, insisting that the fighting in Lebanon must stop before the talks can take place. US Vice President JD Vance also postponed his trip. Israel and Hezbollah later agreed to a ceasefire. A senior US official said, negotiators for the US and Qatar worked out the deal with help from Iran.
4. Uzbekistan has officially become the first Central Asian country to join the New Development Bank (NDB) and it marked the significant milestone in the expansion of the BRICS backed multilateral financial institution. The Republic of Uzbekistan formally became the shareholder of the NDB on5th of June, 2026 after completing all the necessary accession procedures and ratifying the bank’s Articles of the Agreement.
