1. Tamil Nadu-born Rini Sampath has become the first South Asian candidate to be on the ballot for the primary for the election for the mayor of Washington DC.
2. External Affairs Minister S Jaishankar thanked his Armenian counterpart Ararat Mirzoyan and the government of Armenia for facilitating the evacuation of Indian fishermen from Iran. The 345 Indian Fishermen arrived in Chennai yesterday.
3. The United Nations Security Council (UNSC) vote on a resolution aimed at securing the Strait of Hormuz has been postponed once again and is now expected to take place next week. The delay follows an earlier shift from Friday to Saturday, reflecting ongoing diplomatic disagreements among key global powers.
*The Strait of Hormuz remains a critical maritime chokepoint, central to global energy and trade flows, making the outcome of the resolution highly consequential.
4. One more Indian-flagged LPG tanker, Green Sanvi, has crossed the war-affected Strait of Hormuz and is now en route to India. Government sources said that Green Sanvi has become the seventh India-bound LPG tanker to cross the Strait of Hormuz since the West Asia conflict began. A total of 17 Indian-flagged vessels with more than 400 Indian seafarers remain in the western Persian Gulf region.

1. Mongolia’s new coalition government, led by newly appointed Prime Minister Nyam-Osor Uchral, was sworn in yesterday at the State Palace in the capital, Ulan Bator.
2. NATO Secretary-General Mark Rutte will meet U.S. President Donald Trump and senior officials during a four-day visit to Washington beginning on the 8th April.
3. 10 Dead as Russia and Ukraine Exchange Strikes During Zelenskyy’s Istanbul Visit. The attacks came as Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy travelled to Istanbul for talks with Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan. Ukraine’s Air Force said Russia launched 286 drones overnight.
4. In Afghanistan, eight people were killed after a 5.9-magnitude earthquake struck the northern region of the country.
5. NASA’s Artemis II astronauts have sent stunning images of Earth as they approached the moon. A photo captured by Commander Reid Wiseman showed a curved slice of Earth framed by the Orion capsule’s window. A second image revealed the entire globe, with its oceans crowned with white clouds and a glowing green aurora.
NASA’s crew in the spacecraft were over 180,000 kilometres from Earth, with another 240,000 kilometres to reach the near-moon orbit at their destination, probably by Monday. The team of three Americans and one Canadian have planned a swing around the moon in their Orion capsule, executed a U-turn and return directly to Earth without landing. The team became the first travellers to the Moon since Apollo 17 in 1972.
