An oil tanker exploded after striking a naval mine in the Strait of Hormuz. The vessel had allegedly deviated from a shipping route designated by Iranian authorities. The explosion occurred in one of the world’s busiest energy corridors amid heightened regional tensions following recent US-Iran military exchanges. Iranian officials said maritime traffic through the strategic waterway remained unaffected.
2. Four more international sites added to UNESCO World Heritage List:
UNESCO added the World War II D-Day landing beaches in France, Greece’s Mount Olympus, Japan’s ancient capitals of Asuka and Fujiwara, and South Sudan’s Boma-Badingilo Migratory Landscape to the World Heritage List.
3. Russian and Ukrainian forces exchanged overnight strikes, with attacks reported across multiple regions. Russian ballistic missiles struck Kyiv, setting off fires and injuring three civilians, while attacks on other parts of Ukraine later killed at least two people.
