Filmmaker Subhash Ghai, who is known for several blockbusters in Bollywood, started his production house, Mukta Arts, in October 1978, with the Rishi Kapoor-starrer Karz. The filmmaker tries to release all his films on October 24, as he considers the day auspicious because it marks his and his wife Mukta’s wedding anniversary and also the anniversary of Mukta Arts.

Explaining what led to the formation of Mukta Arts, a source says, “After being a scriptwriter for three years, Subhash Ghai got an opportunity to direct his own script, Kalicharan, which shot him to overnight fame as a director.  He then wrote and directed another blockbuster, Vishwanath, for Shatrughan Sinha’s production. He was recognised for his dialogue writing and getting the best out of all actors. After directing two more films with a bigger canvas, Gautam Govinda and Krodhi, starring Dharmendra, he launched his production company on 24th October, 1978, with Karz. The film made him among the leading directors in the country, known for his musical prowess and craftsmanship.”

Subhash Ghai went on to make hit films like Vidhata with Dilip Kumar, the evergreen musical love story Hero, starring Jackie Shroff, Meri Jung and Ram Lakhan, featuring Anil Kapoor, Saudagar, featuring Dilip Kumar and Raj Kumar, Khalnayak, Pardes, Taal, Yaadein and more.
