SAANIKA SHAH -A YOUNG INDIAN WHO DANCED HER WAY TO EVEREST AND BEYOND

Entertainment Story 9

Mumbai, India — In a time where young achievers are redefining India’s future, 22-year-old Saanika Shah has emerged as a remarkable symbol of courage, discipline, and determination. An actor, Bharatanatyam dancer, and mountaineer, Saanika’s journey is not just about summiting mountains — it is about carrying India’s spirit to the highest places on Earth.

Inspired as a young girl after watching Everest and the inspiring story of Poorna, Saanika once turned to her parents and said, “I want to climb Everest.” What sounded like a distant dream slowly transformed into years of relentless hard work, sacrifice, training, and belief.

Today, that dream stands fulfilled.

Saanika Shah successfully summited Mt. Everest, joining one of the most elite groups of mountaineers in the world. Her summit became even more historic as it happened on the day when Everest witnessed the highest number of climbers reaching the top in a single day — a moment etched in mountaineering history.

But Saanika’s story is far deeper than reaching a summit.

Long before Everest, she had already learned the meaning of discipline through Bharatanatyam. At the age of just 14, she completed her Bharatanatyam Arangetram after years of rigorous training and devotion to Indian classical dance.

In an extraordinary and emotional tribute to Indian culture, Saanika went on to perform the first solo Bharatanatyam dance performance at Everest Base Camp at an altitude of 5,346 meters under extreme weather conditions. At a place where even breathing becomes difficult, she chose to dance — carrying the grace of Indian tradition to the lap of the Himalayas.

Her achievements in mountaineering are equally pathbreaking. Saanika became the Youngest Indian and the First Indian Female to summit Mt. Himlung Himal (7,126 meters) in Nepal, adding another milestone to her inspiring journey.

Probably the youngest Gujarati girl from Maharashtra to summit Mt. Everest at the age of 22, and likely the second youngest Gujarati girl from India, Saanika represents a generation that dreams fearlessly and works relentlessly to achieve the impossible.

Behind her success stands a family that believed in her dreams from the very beginning. Her parents themselves are passionate endurance athletes who have successfully completed the Everest Base Camp Trek and prestigious marathons across India, including the Half Marathon at Leh-Ladakh.

For Saanika, mountains are not just peaks to conquer. They are reminders that courage, culture, and conviction can coexist beautifully.

At a time when the nation looks for role models who inspire beyond social media headlines, Saanika Shah stands tall as the face of Young India — grounded in culture, fearless in ambition, and determined to make the country proud on the world stage.

“Hamari chori choro se kam hai ke?”

Saanika Shah has answered that question for the entire nation.
