📜 Which was the first Indian State formed on a linguistic basis?
Andhra Pradesh
Andhra State was carved out of Madras State on 1 October 1953 for Telugu-speaking people, after the death of Potti Sriramulu, who had fasted for 58 days for a separate State. It led to the States Reorganisation Commission headed by Justice Fazl Ali, with K.M. Panikkar and H.N. Kunzru as members. On its advice, the States Reorganisation Act, 1956 redrew India’s map on linguistic lines from 1 November 1956.
