1. President Smt Droupadi Murmu to confer Padma Awards at Rashtrapati Bhavan today.

(a) Padma Vibhushan will given to Shri M Venkaiah Naidu, and Bharatnatyam dancer Dr Padma Subrahmanyam.

(b) Padma Vibhushan award will be given to Bindeshwar Pathak posthumously.

(c) Actor Mithun Chakraborty and singer Usha Uthup will receive the Padma Bhushan award. The other Padma Bhushan awardees include philanthropist Dr Sitaram Jindal, cardiologist Dr Tejas Madhusudan Patel and former Uttar Pradesh Governor Ram Naik.

2. PM Modi on Sunday inaugurated the 2550th Bhagwan Mahaveer Nirvan Mahotsav on the occasion of Mahavir Jayanti at Bharat Mandapam in New Delhi. During the event, the PM released a commemorative stamp and coin to mark the occasion.

3. Preparations are in full swing for the second phase of voting in the Lok Sabha election on April 26 after the first phase was successfully completed on April 19. People of 89 Parliamentary constituencies across 13 states will exercise their voting rights on April 26.

8. University Grants Commission (UGC) has announced significant changes allowing students with 4-year undergraduate degrees to directly appear for the National Eligibility Test (NET). Additionally, those with 75% aggregate marks or equivalent grades can now directly pursue a PhD.

9. The School Education Department in the state has made the use of Permanent Education Number (PEN) mandatory from the academic year 2024-25. PEN is a unique identification number assigned to every student by the Union Ministry of Education, through the UDISE+ (Unified District Information System for Education Plus) portal, which covers more than 14.89 lakh schools, 95 lakh teachers, and 26.5 crore children.

10. Lok Sabha polls: Re-polling announced at 11 polling booths in Manipur on April 22 after incidents of firing, clashes reported. The Election Commission of India @ under Sections 58(2) and 58A(2) of the Representation of the People Act, 1951.

1. Senior Congress leader and Lok Sabha candidate Shashi Tharoor has been booked for allegedly carrying out a false campaign against Union minister and rival candidate Rajeev Chandrasekhar, police said in Thiruvananthapuram on Sunday.

2. A Naxalite was killed in an encounter with security personnel in Chhattisgarh’s Bijapur district on Sunday, police said. The gunfight took place in a forest near Keshkutul village under Bhairamgarh police station area at around 5.30 am.

3. In Hyderabad, Telangana, the Begum Bazar police booked a case of deliberate and malicious acts intending to outrage religious feelings under Section 295/A of the IPC against Madhavi Latha, BJP contestant for the Hyderabad Lok Sabha seat. The complainant, Md Sheikh Imran, 38, a resident of First Lancer.

4. Muslim organisations in Dharwad, Karnataka have given a call for a ‘bandh’ (strike) on Monday, condemning the murder of 23-year-old college student Neha Hiremath in Hubballi recently.

Neha Hiremath (23), daughter of Congress Councillor of Hubballi-Dharwad Municipal Corporation Niranjan Hiremath, was allegedly stabbed to death on the campus of BVB College on April 18. The accused Fayaz was arrested by police subsequently.

5. The Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) has accused the Tihar administration of denying insulin to Kejriwal, who suffers from diabetes.

But according to the reports, the Tihar administration arranged a video conference of Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal with senior specialists from AIIMS during which neither ‘the issue of insulin was raised by Kejriwal, nor was it suggested by the doctors’, prison authorities.

6. The authorities in Madhya Pradesh’s Guna district on Sunday demolished the illegal portion of the house of a 20-year-old man after he was arrested for allegedly raping and assaulting his female friend.

1. The Securities and Exchange Board of India (SEBI) has proposed a framework for price discovery of shares of listed Investment Companies (ICs) and Investment Holding Companies (IHCs) whose market price is trading at a significant discount to their book value.

2. Machine tool solution provider Bharat Fritz Werner Ltd (BFW) has inaugurated its manufacturing facility at Devaganapalli near Hosur in Tamil Nadu. This facility, set up with an investment of Rs 200 crore.

3. According to the latest report released, India’s foreign exchange reserves fell by $5.4 billion to $643.16 billion. This decline comes after the reserves reached an all-time high of $648.56 billion, The decrease in the forex reserves was primarily due to a decline in foreign currency assets (FCAs), which fell by $6.51 billion to $564.65 billion.

FCAs, the largest component of the forex reserves, include the effect of appreciation or depreciation of non-US currencies like the euro, pound, and yen held in the reserves.

4. Santhosh Viswanathan has been appointed as the Vice President and Managing Director for the India region of Intel Corporation.

5. Airtel Payments Bank has introduced NCMC-aligned debit and prepaid cards in collaboration with NPCI, powered by RuPay. These cards are designed to support India’s One Nation, One Card initiative. Savings account holders can avail NCMC-enabled debit cards, while wallet users can opt for prepaid cards.

1. Actress Shinnova is taking the legal route to prove that actor-politician Ravi Kishan is her biological father.

The 25-year-old has reportedly lodged a civil suit in a Mumbai court and demanded a DNA test to substantiate her claim. She has petitioned the court to officially recognize her as the daughter of Kishan, born from his relationship with Aparna Soni.

1. The Indian Navy conducted Exercise ‘Poorvi Lehar’ on the East Coast under the Operational Control of Vice Admiral Rajesh Pendharkar, Flag Officer Commanding-in-Chief, Eastern Naval Command.

The Indian Navy stated, “The exercise aimed to validate procedures towards assessing the Indian Navy’s preparedness to meet Maritime Security challenges in the region.” It was a multi-service, multi-domain exercise.

The Exercise provided valuable lessons to participating forces operating under realistic conditions, thereby enhancing their readiness to respond effectively to maritime challenges in the regions

2. The Indian and Uzbekistan armed forces performed yoga on Saturday under the ongoing joint military exercise ‘DUSTLIK’ in the Termez District of Uzbekistan.

3. Security forces on Sunday busted a terrorist hideout in a village in Jammu and Kashmir’s Rajouri district, leading to the recovery of eight improvised explosive devices (IEDs), two wireless sets, and some ammunition.

4. Ministry of Defence is planning a phase-wise augmentation of the National Cadet Corps (NCC) from the current 17 lakh cadets to 27 lakh in the next 10 years.

5. Indian Army TGC-140: The Indian Army is seeking talented engineering graduates to join its ranks as officers through the 140th Technical Graduate Course (TGC-140). Eligibility: Unmarried male engineering graduates are encouraged to apply.

Application Process: Applications are open online only from April 10, 2024 (1500 HR) to May 09, 2024 (1500 HR).

6. Two Japanese Military Helicopters Crash In Pacific Ocean; One Dead, Seven Missing. Japanese military helicopters crashed in the south of Tokyo.

Defence minister of Japan, Minoru Kihara said that the two SH-60 helicopters from the Maritime Self-Defense Force (MSDF) were conducting nighttime anti-submarine training in the waters off Torishima island when they lost communication with the surface.
