1. Amid the ongoing Russia-Ukraine war, Indian envoy to Ukraine, Harsh Kumar Jain handed over the 15th consignment of humanitarian aid to Ukraine, Embassy of Ukraine in India said.

A 13-year-old in the Maldives died due to a delay in medical evacuation, a result of alleged reluctance on the Maldivian government’s part to use Indian choppers. The young schoolboy died at the Indira Gandhi Memorial Hospital (IGMH) in the Maldivan capital on Saturday.

1. China-Kyrgyzstan border was rocked with a major 7.0-magnitude earthquake on Monday (Jan 22) evening, the United States Geological Survey reported. The quake was registered just after 2:00 am (1800 GMT Monday) at a depth of 13 kilometres in China’s Xinjiang region, west of the city of Aksu.

2. Democratic Republic of Congo President Felix Tshisekedi was sworn in for a second five-year term on Saturday after a landslide victory his opponents have refused to recognise due to widespread irregularities over the December general election.

3. British Prime Minister Rishi Sunak said that he would look to reduce taxes at future fiscal events if it was possible to do responsibly.

The private visit comes after recent criticism over endorsing an anti-Jewish conspiracy theory on his social media platform X. He later apologised.
