India and Saudi Arabia announce agreement to expand economic, security ties

1. PM Modi exchanges greetings with Chinese Premier Li Qiang during the G20 Leaders’ Summit Beijing: China finally broke its silence on the New Delhi G20 summit saying that the Declaration adopted by the member nations has sent a “positive signal” that the influential grouping is “working together” to tackle global challenges and promote world economic recovery.

2. PM Modi and French President Emmanuel Macron reiterated their commitment to further strengthen defence cooperation through forward-looking alliances in design, development, testing and manufacture of advanced defence technologies and platforms.

3. As the G20 Summit successfully concluded with 100 per cent consensus on New Delhi Declaration, most of the international media have praised India and spoken of its rising clout as the voice of the Global South.

4. India and Saudi Arabia have signed eight agreements during the State visit of Crown Prince and Prime Minister of Saudi Arabia Mohammed bin Salman bin Abdulaziz Al Saud.

5. Canada🇨🇦 Sikhs turned up in large numbers at a Khalistan referendum event in Canada just as PM Modi conveyed New Delhi’s strong concerns about continuing anti-India activities in the North American nation to his counterpart Justin Trudeau at the G20 Leaders’ Summit.

The vote to weigh support for Khalistan was held on Sunday in the British Columbian province of Surrey at the Guru Nanak gurdwara, where its former president Hardeep Singh Nijjar was shot dead in June.

7. What is the India – Middle East – Europe Economic Corridor (IMEC)?

IMEC is envisioned as a network of transport corridors comprising railway lines and sea lanes to promote economic integration between Asia, the Arabian Gulf, and Europe. This initiative is part of the Partnership for Global Infrastructure Investment (PGII),which aims to fund infrastructure projects in developing countries through public and private investments, offering an alternative to the BRI. (China’s Belt and Road Initiative (BRI).

India opposed the BRI because it included the China-Pakistan Economic Corridor (CPEC), which passed through territory that India claimed but was under Pakistani control. India saw this as a violation of its sovereignty.

1. A Frontier Constabulary (FC) official was was killed and eight others, including two civilians, were injured in a blast in Pakistan’s Peshawar.

4. European Commission said that German economy is expected to contract this year. Germany’s gross domestic product is now forecast to shrink by 0.4 per cent in 2023, compared to a previous prediction of 0.2 percent growth.

5. Dennis Austin, one of the two creators of Microsoft PowerPoint, passed away at the age of 76. Austin created PowerPoint with Robert Gaskins and released it in 1987.
