Odisha hit by 61K lightning strikes in 2 hrs. A mind-boggling 61,000 lightning strikes in about two hours left parts of Odisha – the capital region in particular – awestruck.

At least two deaths were recorded during the day. Bhubaneswar and its neighbourhood were at the receiving end of the lightning bolts which continued uninterrupted during the afternoon thundershower activities

1. The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has predicted heavy to very heavy rainfall over Odisha, Coastal Andhra Pradesh, Telangana, and Kerala over the next 24 hours.

2. The country received over 162 millimetres of rainfall in August 2023, which is 36% less than its Long Period Average of around 255 millimetres..

3. Indian Space Research Organisation (ISRO) has successfully performed the first earth-bound manoeuvre of the country’s maiden solar mission, Aditya L1, from its Telemetry, Tracking and Command Network in Bengaluru.

4. As 14 days of daylight ends on the Moon, the Indian Space Research Organisation, ISRO has put off the payloads on the solar-powered Rover Pragyan that is safely parked on the surface of the Moon. ISRO to wake up Chandrayan-3’s rover Pragyan on 22nd of this month after it was put to sleep following completion of all its assignments on Lunar surface.

5. Government has constituted an eight member high level committee to examine ONE NATION, ONE ELECTION. Former President Ram Nath Kovind has been appointed as Chairman of the committee.

6. PM Modi has said, India will be a developed nation by 2047 where corruption, casteism and communalism will have no place.

7. A special Session of Parliament has been convened from the 18th to 22nd of September.

8. Principal Secretary to the Prime Minister Dr PK Mishra, along with Delhi Lieutenant Governor Vinay Kumar Saxena undertook an extensive site visit of multiple locations across Delhi to review the preparedness for the upcoming G20 Summit.

9. The fourth and final Sherpa meeting of the G20 Summit began on Sunday in Haryana’s Mewat and will continue until September 7.

10. Northern Railways has decided to cancel 40 mail and Express trains due to the upcoming G20 Summit in Delhi from the 9th to the 10th of September. It has also diverted 64 trains.

11. DELHI MUDRA UTSAV-2023 concluded. Utsav aim to promote and create awareness about Indian heritage through country’s currency.

12. Union Home Minister Amit Shah inaugurated the second Parivartan Yatra of the BJP in RAJASTHAN that started from Sunday from, Beneshwar Dham.

13. BJP announced the name of former UP Deputy CM Dr Dinesh Sharma as the party candidate for Rajya Sabha by-poll in UTTAR PRADESH.

14. On the occasion of Teachers’ Day celebrations, the TELANGANA State Government will award over 50 teachers from different schools as the Best Teachers on the 5th of September in Hyderabad.

15. MAHARASHTRA CM Eknath Shinde described the incident of the lathi-charge during the agitation for Maratha reservation in Jalna district on Friday as very unfortunate.

16. The reading of preamble will take place in KARNATAKA on 15 September at 10 am, when the ‘International Day of Democracy’ is celebrated worldwide.

17. TELANGANA BRS has decided to rework its election strategy and its expansion plans in the event of simultaneous Assembly and Lok Sabha polls in April-May. Party sources said that they are devising ‘Plan-B’ under which it will review the list of candidates announced for Assembly polls and consider shifting a few of them to Lok Sabha polls.

18. Senior Biju Janata Dal (BJD) leader and former speaker of the ODISHA Legislative Assembly Surya Narayan Patra passed away in Bhubaneswar. He was 75 years.

19. ISRO scientist Valarmathi, who lent her voice on countdowns for rocket launches, including the Chandrayaan-3 mission, has passed away due to cardiac arrest. She was a project director of RISAT-1, India’s first indigenously-developed Radar Imaging Satellite.

20. Shri Kantha Rao assumed charge as the new Secretary of the Ministry of Mines, on 1 September 2023.

21. Former Chief Justice of India (CJI) N.V. Ramana has been appointed as member of the International Mediator Panel of Singapore International Mediation Centre (SIMC).

1. PGIM India Mutual Fund has announced that three debt schemes will merge into two debt schemes. The PGIM India Short Duration Fund (PSDF), PGIM India Banking and PSU Debt Fund (PBPSU) will merge into the PGIM India Corporate Bond Fund (PCBF). The PGIM India Low Duration Fund (PLDF) will merge with the PGIM India Money Market Fund (PMMF).

2. Franklin Templeton Asset Management (India) has received a total sum of Rs 1,398 crore for five of its schemes as part of the payment of interest on bonds held from telecom company Vodafone Idea on September 1.
