1. Four members, including retired Bombay High Court judge Justice Surendra Pandharinath Tavade and former Maharashtra DGP Rashmi Shukla, were sworn in as members of the Maharashtra Lokayukta institution yesterday.
2. In Jharkhand, the JPSC-JSSC aspirants’ protest continues in Ranchi on its 21st day. Senior officials visited the protest site this evening at Jaipal Singh Munda Stadium and interacted with the protesting students, seeking details about the proposed Tiranga Yatra.
3. The Supreme Court declined to interfere with the Andhra Pradesh High Court order quashing a criminal case against Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister N. Chandrababu Naidu and Minister P. Narayana in connection with alleged irregularities in the land pooling scheme for the development of Amaravati.
4. The National Human Rights Commission (NHRC) has issued a notice to the Haryana Chief Secretary and Faridabad Police Commissioner over the alleged death of a person and injury to others due to inhaling toxic gases while cleaning a manhole without safety gear.
5. Indian Railways, under its ‘Operation Nanhey Farishtey’, has reunited 65 lost children with their families.
These children, who were found on various railway stations under the Ferozepur Railway Division, were secured by the Railway Protection Force (RPF) and other railway staff between January and July this year and reunited with their parents.

1. Odisha remains caught in a relentless monsoon spell, with incessant rain triggering repeated flooding across northern districts and leaving lakhs of people displaced. IMD issued an Orange Warning has been issued for four districts and Yellow Warning for 14 districts, keeping the flood situation under close watch.
2. In Uttarakhand, seven people died and 14 sustained injuries following a landslide and water seepage in an under-construction tunnel at a hydroelectric project site in Chamoli district.
3. Former Deputy Chief Minister of Punjab and President of Shiromani Akali Dal (SAD) Sukhbir Singh Badal has been discharged from Nanded Hospital yesterday.
He was attacked by a person on 13 Aug with a sharp-edged weapon while coming out of a Gurdwara after paying obeisance with his family in Nanded.
4. In Jammu and Kashmir, one Village Defence Guard (VDG) member was killed and another critically injured after a fellow VDG member allegedly opened fire on them following a scuffle in Udhampur district.

1. President smt Droupadi Murmu has approved 78 Gallantry awards to the personnel of the Defence Forces and Central Armed Police Forces on the eve of Independence Day 2026. 13 Awards have been given posthumously.
These are nine Kirti Chakras, one Bar to Shaurya Chakra, 19 Shaurya Chakras, five Bar to Sena Medals (Gallantry), 36 Sena Medals (Gallantry), three Nao Sena Medal (Gallantry), and five Vayu Sena Medals (Gallantry).
2. The Defence Ministry has signed contracts worth Rs 1,577 crore with TATA Advanced Systems Limited and NIBE Private Limited for the procurement of Loiter Munition Systems for the Indian Army.
3. The Delhi government has approved a 20 percent horizontal reservation for ex-Agniveers in direct recruitment to fire operator posts in Delhi Fire Services and warder and matron posts in the Prison Department.

Ramayan actor Sunil Lahri, who became a household name for playing Lakshman in Ramanand Sagar’s iconic television show Ramayan, has sparked a fresh debate with his comments on Gen Z and Gen Alpha. The actor recently took to his official X account and shared a video in which he questioned the terminology used to describe younger generations, saying that labels such as “Gen Z” and “Gen Alpha” are not rooted in Indian culture.
Sunil argued that society should choose words that bring the younger generation closer to the older generation rather than creating a sense of distance.
