1. United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organisation (UNESCO) has raised concerns over the proposed Aghanashini–Vedavathi river-linking project, urging India to adhere strictly to World Heritage conservation norms. The response came after a representation by environmental activists highlighting ecological risks associated with the project in the sensitive Western Ghats region.
2. Fighting resumed at Afghanistan-Pakistan border after temporary ceasefire expired. Afghanistan’s Kunar province spokesperson Zia-ur-Rahman Spinghar said Pakistani forces fired dozens of artillery shells into the Narai and Sarkano districts, killing two civilians and wounding eight.

5. Bangladesh is observed Genocide Day yesterday in solemn remembrance of the victims of the brutal military crackdown carried out by Pakistani forces on the night of March 25, 1971, under the codename Operation Searchlight.
The day marks one of the darkest chapters in the country’s history, when unarmed Bengalis – including students, teachers and civilians – were killed across the then East Pakistan, particularly in Dhaka, triggering widespread atrocities during the Liberation War.
