1. Indian football club East Bengal entered the main draw of the AFC Women’s Champions League 2026-27 by beating Malaysia’s Sabah Football Club 2-0 in their final Group A preliminary-stage match in Kota Kinabalu.
2. In Football, East Bengal FC lifted the Durand Cup for a record-equalling 17th time after defeating arch-rivals Mohun Bagan Super Giant 4-1 in the final at Salt Lake Stadium in Kolkata. East Bengal’s Edmund Lalrindika scored a sensational first-half hat-trick, leading them to victory.
3. In Cricket, India were 300 for 5 in their first innings against hosts Sri Lanka at stumps on Day 1 of the second and final Test in Colombo. Dhruv Jurel and Saransh Jain remained unbeaten.
Earlier, India won the toss and opted to bat. Madhya Pradesh all-rounder Saransh Jain made his Test debut for India, while Kamil Mishara debuted for Sri Lanka. India won the first Test by 165 runs and currently lead the two-match series 1- nil.
4. 🏏 Karn Sharma retires: The 38-year-old former India leg-spinner has announced his retirement from all forms of cricket. He won four IPL titles during his career.
5. The Sports Ministry has approved a 492-member Indian contingent for the Asian Games, which will begin next month in Japan. The contingent includes 265 male and 227 women athletes, with athletics accounting for the largest share of 73 participants.
6. In wrestling, Indian women wrestlers added three more medals to the country’s tally at the Under 20 World Championships in Slovakia, with Mansi Lather winning silver and Tanvi Gundesh Magdum and Komal securing bronze medals.
