1. Commonwealth Games Updates
(a) Indian Judoka Asmita Dey and Harsh Singh created history by winning the historic Commonwealth Gold Medal at Glasgow. Asmita Dey clinched country’s first-ever Commonwealth Games Judo gold, defeating Canada’s Heidi Quach 2-1 in the women’s 48kg final.
(b) In Mens 60kg event, Harsh Singh secured gold medal after beating Joshua Katz of Australia in the final. A brilliant half-arm throw in the final minute earns him a Waza-ari sealing India’s second consecutive judo gold in Glasgow.
(c) Indian boxers continued their impressive run at the Commonwealth Games in Glasgow, with five pugilists securing places in the finals yesterday. Preeti Pawar, Ankush Panghal, Jaismine Lamboria, Arundhati Chaudhary and Jadumani Singh advanced to the title bouts in their respective categories.
(d) President Smt. Droupadi Murmu congratulated athlete Seema Kaliramna yesterday on winning the bronze medal in the women’s discus throw event at the Glasgow Commonwealth Games 2026.
(e) Neeraj Chopra, added yet another silver medal to his kitty as he came second in the men’s javelin throw final (85.83 m) at the Commonwealth Games 2026. Neeraj, who entered the contest as the hot favourite, displayed great skill but came second to Sri Lanka’s Rumesh Pathirage in Glasgow. With this, the ace athlete from India won his second medal at the Commonwealth Games.
(f) National record holder Tejaswin Shankar overcame a long-standing knee injury and scripted history as he became the first Indian to win a decathlon medal at the Commonwealth Games.
(g) India’s medal tally at the Commonwealth Games has risen to 19, including five gold, nine silver and five bronze medals.
2. India’s Unnati Hooda and Tanvi Sharma advanced to the Women’s Singles Semifinals of the Taipei Open.
3. Franco Baresi, the former AC Milan captain and Italy international footballer, died on 31 July 2026 at the age of 66. He played his entire senior club career for AC Milan from 1977 to 1997 and made 719 appearances for the club.
4. The 11th All India Police Judo Cluster Championship 2026 concluded on 30 July 2026 at Hyderabad in Telangana. The event was held from 23 July to 30 July 2026 at the GMC Balayogi Indoor Stadium in Gachibowli and was hosted by the Central Industrial Security Force under the aegis of the All-India Police Sports Control Board.
