Renowned sports science expert Dr. Genadijus Sokolavas joins the ongoing national camp for senior swimmers.

The Indian swimming fraternity extended a warm welcome to renowned physiologist and sports science expert Dr. Genadijus Sokolovas. Dr. Sokolovas is here at an ongoing national camp for senior swimmers at Padukone – Dravid Centre for Sports Excellence, Bangalore. Dr. Sokolovas headed the Department of Physiology and Sport Science of the USA Swimming Federation for 8 years and has also taken care of US swimmers, water polo players and triathletes. Dr. Sokolovas renowned research methodology has found consultations with leading swimmers including 28-time Olympic medalist Michael Phelps.

The overall cost of Dr. Sokolovas’ visit is Rs. 8.78 Lakhs and will be covered by the Target Olympic Podium Scheme (TOPS). The costs include professional charges, airfare, boarding and lodging, visa and transport. During his six days visit he will conduct advanced sports science tests which includes Swim Power Test, Lactate Clearance & Lactate Heart Profile. Further, he will present Seasonal Training Design & conduct coaches Workshop.

Dr. Sokolovas is here to empower our senior swimmers & coaches with the advanced knowledge of sports science and techniques used specifically for swimming. Boost to the morale of swimmers & all are hoping that during his two days high performance coaches clinic his expertise will also give new dimension training, preparation long-term plans for athletes with the use of technology.

Secretary General, Swimming Federation of India, Monal Chokshi expressed his gratitude to the Sports Authority of India ( SAI) for approving SFI’s proposal to bring in a globally acclaimed sports scientist like Dr Genadijus Sokolovas to India.

Nihar Ameen, Dronacharya awardee and programme director at the Dravid-Padukone Centre for Sports Excellence, said: “We don’t have anyone who is an expert in biomechanics specific to swimming in India. You have it for various other sports, though. The swimmers usually go abroad for such analysis. But this is the first time it’s taking place in India, and that too, by one of the best in the world in Dr Genadijus.

The national camp started on 11th January at Padukone – Dravid Centre for Sports Excellence, Bangalore and will conclude on 21st February. The ongoing national senior swimmers camp list included the following swimmers :
