Indian shooter Neeru Dhanda made history by becoming the first Indian woman to win the Asian Games gold medal in the women’s individual trap event. The 26-year-old achieved this feat on September 29 in Aichi-Nagoya, Japan, securing India’s fifth gold medal at the Games.
The 26-year-old Indian shooter hit 28 of 30 targets in the final at the Aichi Prefectural General Shooting Gallery, missing just twice to finish two clear of the People’s Republic of China’s Sun Yunong. Kuwait’s Hajar Abdulmalik won bronze with 21.
No Indian woman trap shooter had won an individual medal at the Asian Games before this.
After Randhir Singh’s historic gold in the men’s individual trap event of the 1978 edition, Ronjan Sodhi claimed the top honours in the men’s double trap event at the 2010 Asiad.
