Israeli Forces Advance on Gaza City
The Israeli military advanced deeper into the Gaza Strip yesterday, approaching Gaza City, the enclave’s largest city, from three directions as it battered the territory with airstrikes.

Eyewitness photos and videos as well as satellite imagery, showed troops and armored vehicles closing in on the city from the north, east and south.

At a news conference, Israel’s prime minister, Benjamin Netanyahu, asked nations to back the country in its fight against Hamas, saying “Israel’s fight is your fight.”

1. External Affairs Minister S Jaishankar on Monday met with the families of eight Indians detained in Qatar and assured them that the government will make all efforts to secure their release.

Dmitry Dubovik, Director of the Caspian International Integration Club “North – South”, made this announcement at the International Forum in Astrakhan.

4. Defence Minister Rajnath Singh on Monday stressed the need to build trust among countries on the maritime front through dialogue and said common maritime priorities of tackling climate change, controlling piracy, terrorism and drug trafficking should be addressed in cooperation. He was addressing the Indian Navy’s Goa Maritime Conclave (GMC) 2023, which began on Sunday.

5. The trial-run of Akhaura-Agartala rail link was conducted on Monday. It was for the first time the locomotive engine attached with four wagons entered into the Indian territory of Tripura.

The ambitious Agartala-Akhaura rail project will be flagged off by PM Modi and his Bangladesh counterpart Sheikh Hasina on November 1.

6. Norway is allocating ₹44.7 million over three years, until September 2026, to bolster food security and environmental protection in Uttarakhand through India’s ‘Hunger Project.

1. Gaza Ceasefire “Will Not Happen”: Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu said Monday a ceasefire in Israel’s war against Hamas “will not happen”, as the UN warned not enough aid was coming in to meet “unprecedented humanitarian needs”.

2. A female Israeli soldier Ori Megidish was released from captivity in the Gaza Strip, the army said Monday, following an operation in the Hamas-run Palestinian territory.

3. Dagestan’s main airport was closed by Russia’s aviation agency due to a mob incident. The airport was stormed by the mob in search of Israeli citizens, following reports of an incoming plane from Israel. As a result, flights were diverted.

4. Israel’s Minister of Defence Yoav Gallant met with the families of Israelis who were kidnapped by the Hamas terrorist organization to Gaza.

5. The opening ceremony of the 10th Beijing Xiangshan Forum was held at the Beijing International Convention Center on Monday. A record-breaking number of participants from more than 100 countries and international organizations attended this event, including representatives at the defense minister-level or higher, military chiefs and experts.

6. The Chinese-built Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman Tunnel in Bangladesh, the first under-river tunnel in South Asia, opened to traffic on Saturday, which marked Bangladesh’s entry into the era of underwater tunnels.

7. Pakistan’s interim Finance Minister Shamshad Akhtar has said that the caretaker government has introduced reforms, including for the implementation of the IMF’s bailout programme, to put the cash-strapped country’s economy back on track to progress.

8. The UN Security Council scheduled an emergency meeting on Israel’s ground invasion of Gaza on Monday afternoon at the request of the UAE, the Arab representative on the council. Meanwhile, the UN mission in Lebanon says a peacekeeper was wounded after his base in the country’s South was hit by a mortar shell.

9. Police in Tampa, Florida, have arrested a man suspected of killing two people in gun violence that sparked chaos on Sunday around a clutch of bars and clubs as people celebrated Halloween, authorities said. Tyrell Stephen Phillips, 22, was charged with second-degree murder in the shooting deaths of a 14-year-old boy and a 20-year-old man.

10. After a daylong hartal on Sunday, Bangladesh Nationalist Party (BNP) and it alliances has announced countrywide blockades for three consecutive days starting on October 31 (Tuesday).
