3. India and Pakistan on 30 May held deliberations on issues relating to water sharing under the framework of the Indus Commission.
4. 1st session of 118th meeting of the Pakistan-India Permanent Indus Commission was held in New Delhi.
Under the Indus Water Treaty signed between India and Pakistan in 1960, all the waters of the eastern rivers — Sutlej, Beas, and Ravi — amounting to around 33 million acre feet (MAF) annually is allocated to India for unrestricted use.
The waters of western rivers — Indus, Jhelum, and Chenab — amounting to around 135 MAF annually have been assigned largely to Pakistan. India is permitted to construct the run of the river plants on western rivers with limited storage as per criteria specified in the treaty.
Under the provisions of Article VIII(5) of the Indus Waters Treaty, the Permanent Indus Commission is required to meet at least once a year.

1. Russian President Vladimir Putin on Monday said that Russia is ready to facilitate the unhindered export of grain from Ukrainian ports. His comment comes amid a blockade of Ukrainian ports by the Russian forces.
2. The World Bank will disburse $700 million to Sri Lanka by re-purposing the country’s existing loans amid its ongoing economic crisis.
3. US President Joe Biden on Monday said America will not send rocket systems to Ukraine that can reach into Russia. However, it was not clear which systems Biden was referring to in his remark. The Ukrainian government has urged the West to provide it with more longer-range weapons to fight the Russian forces invading the country.
