1. The first International Financial Architecture Working Group meeting of G-20 under the chairmanship of India will be held in Chandigarh on 30-31 January 2023.

2. President of 77th Session of United Nations General Assembly, Csaba Korosi has stressed the need to bring reforms in the UN Security Council.

On the issue of China violating India’s sovereignty along the northern border, the UNGA President said, all the conflicts must be resolved by peaceful means.

3. Science 20 Inception Meeting was held on Monday at Puducherry. Scientists from 10 countries of G20 along with scientists from India’s Premier Science Institutions participated in the deliberations.

4. The First Employment Working Group meeting of G20 summit will be held in Jodhpur in Rajasthan from 2nd to 4th February

5. External Affairs Minister Dr S Jaishankar on Monday met President of the 77th Session of the United Nations General Assembly, Csaba Korosi in New Delhi.

6. THE INDUS WATER TREATY?
India recently issued a notice to Pakistan for modification of the Indus Waters Treaty (IWT).

It was signed in September 1960 between India and Pakistan.It was brokered by the World Bank.

The treaty fixed and delimited the rights and obligations of both countries concerning the use of the waters of the Indus River system.
It gives control over the waters of the three “eastern rivers’ — the Beas, Ravi, and Sutlej — to India, while control over the waters of the three “western rivers’ ‘ — the Indus, Chenab, and Jhelum — to Pakistan.

The treaty allows India to use the western river waters for limited irrigation use and unlimited non-consumptive use for such applications as power generation, navigation, floating of property, fish culture, etc.
It lays down detailed regulations for India in building projects over the western rivers.

1. In Pakistan, the death toll has risen to 72 in the suicide blast inside a mosque in Police Lines area of Peshawar near Afghanistan. At least 157 people were injured. Security officials say that the suicide attacker was in the front row during the prayers when he exploded himself.

The terror outfit Tehreek-i-Taliban Pakistan (TTP) claimed responsibility for the blast.

2. Poland to increase defence budget to 4% of GDP: PM Morawiecki
Polish PM Mateusz Morawiecki on Monday announced.

3. Russia has criticised the BBC over its documentary on PM Narendra Modi and the Gujarat riots. Russia’s Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov’s spokesperson has accused the BBC of waging an information war not only against Russia, but also against other countries following an independent policy.

4. Political consultant Shasti Conrad has been elected as the new chair of the Washington State Democratic Party, becoming the youngest and the first Indian-American woman to serve as a state party chair in the US.
