Maratha quota stir turns violent
AUTHORITIES imposed curfew in Beed district of Maharashtra Monday evening after the agitation to demand reservation for the Maratha community turned violent, with protesters indulging in arson and vandalism to target the residences of two NCP MLAs and a municipal council building earlier in the day.
The protesters also vandalised the office of a BJP MLA in Chhatrapati Sambhajinagar district, and pelted stones at state transport buses as they blocked highways in other parts of the Marathwada region.
As the agitation escalated, Chief Minister Eknath Shinde met Governor Ramesh Bais in the evening and briefed him about the situation and the measures being taken to control it.

4. Central government has granted permission to the Manipur government to operate helicopter services from Imphal International Airport to Dimapur in Nagaland.
5. The Manipur government announced that no one shall or attempt to make any deliberate efforts to follow or enforce any illegal declaration of holiday on every Friday except for those Fridays which are general holidays.
6. In view of Assembly elections in five States- Mizoram, Chhattisgarh, Madhya Pradesh, Rajasthan, and Telangana, an all-out effort is being made by the Election Commission of India (ECI).
7. Shiv Sena MPs from Nashik and Hingoli in Maharashtra, both loyalists of Chief Minister Eknath Shinde, have resigned in support of the Maratha reservation demand.
8. Smart City Mission has presented a unique, initiative of women empowerment in Belagavi in Karnataka.
9. Former J&K Chief Minister and National Conference (NC) vice president Omar Abdullah expressed concern over the infighting in the Indian National Developmental, Inclusive Alliance (INDIA) grouping. He said the INDIA alliance was likely to meet again after the State elections.
10. Over 64 lakh or 6.4 million “fraudulent” phone connections, detected with the help of facial recognition, have been disconnected by the Indian government in the last six months.
11. The Cauvery Water Regulation Committee on Monday recommended that Karnataka has to ensure release from its reservoirs so that the flows at the rate of 2,600 cusecs are realized at Biligundlu from November 1 to 23, amid Karnataka’s opposition that it would not be able to release water to Tamil Nadu.
12. National Highways Authority of India (NHAI) and the Gurugram police have started closing illegal entry and exit points on the Delhi-Gurgaon Expressway.
13. Senior IPS officer Viresh Kumar Bhawra 1987 batch, who was serving as Director General of Punjab Police before going on a two-month leave in July 2022, has challenged the appointment of Gaurav Yadav as Director General of Punjab Police during his leave period before Chandigarh bench of Central Administrative Tribunal Chandigarh.
14. Major General J.S. Mangat has assumed charge as Additional Director General of the NCC Directorate (Kerala & Lakshadweep) at Thiruvananthapuram.

1. Enforcement Directorate has summoned Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal for questioning in an excise policy-linked money-laundering case on November 2.
2. Allahabad high court on Monday adjourned the hearing till November 8 on a petition filed by Anjuman Intezamia Masjid Committee which has challenged the maintainability of a suit seeking restoration of a temple at the site where the Gyanvapi mosque exists in Varanasi.

7. Terrorist attacks hit the Kashmir valley for the second consecutive day on Monday when a labourer hailing from Uttar Pradesh was shot dead in Pulwama district.
This incident came less than 24 hours after a terrorist of banned Lashkar-e-Tayiba shot and critically wounded police inspector Masroor Ahmed Wani.
8. In Kerala, Four IEDs were used in the multiple explosions that rocked a Jehovah’s Witnesses’ gathering in Kalamassery area of Kerala’s Ernakulam district on Sunday morning, killing three people. Sources said at least five litres of petrol in plastic pouches were used for each bomb.
9. Andhra Pradesh Crime Investigation Department has registered one more graft case against the former Chief Minister and TDP national president Nara Chandrababu Naidu, alleging that he was involved in a liquor scam during his previous tenure by granting permission to certain distilleries.

1. Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman has called for inter-governmental cooperation to fight the menace of illegal trade and smuggling.
2. Onion prices surge, touch Rs 78 per kg in Delhi.
The government imposed a minimum export price (MEP) of USD 800 per tonne on onion exports till December 31 to increase the availability of the vegetable in the domestic market.

1. Raksha Mantri Rajnath Singh called for establishing multinational collaborative mitigation frameworks in the Indian Ocean Region.

4. Indian and Malaysian armies have commenced “Exercise Harimau Shakti 2023” as a testament to their ongoing defence cooperation. This joint bilateral training exercise, taking place at Umroi Cantonment in India, aims to bolster military capabilities and enhance cooperation between the two nations.
5. India plans to operationally deploy by 2028-29 its long-range air defence system, which can detect and destroy incoming stealth fighters, aircraft, drones, cruise missiles and PGMs upto 350 km.
