1. President Smt. Droupadi Murmu on Friday prorogued both Houses of Parliament after the conclusion of the Winter Session. “Lok Sabha which commenced its Fourteenth Session on the 4th December 2023, has been prorogued by the Hon’ble President on the 29th December 2023.

2. PM Modi will share his thoughts with the nation through his Mann Ki Baat programme on Akashvani today. The 108th edition of the programme will be broadcast on the entire network of Akashvani News and Doordarshan at 11 AM.

1. The High Court of Karnataka has directed the state not to take coercive action against RSS leader Kalladka Prabhakar Bhat for his speech on December 24 in Srirangapatna, allegedly insulting Muslim women.

Senior advocate Arun Shyam, who appeared for Bhat, argued that the case was politically motivated and the RSS leader had only stated facts which were protected under the right to speech.

2. In Bengaluru, The recently opened Phoenix Mall of Asia on International Airport Road, which has been in the eye of the storm of late, has been ordered to be shut for 15 days starting from the night of December 31.

1. RBI cancels licence of 2 co-operative banks:

(a) The Botad Peoples Co-operative Bank.

(b) Adarsh Mahila Nagari Sahakari Bank Maryadit because: it does not have adequate capital and earning prospects.

2. Indian Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman said on Friday (Dec 29) that the country’s defence exports would touch $2.88 billion (around ₹24,000 crore) in the financial year (FY 24).

3. Union Minister Nitin Gadkari reveals a substantial allocation of Rs 1,170.16 crore for 29 road projects in Ladakh, targeting improved connectivity in the region.

4. The Centre is eyeing expansion of saffron cultivation in the north-eastern states of Sikkim, Arunachal Pradesh and Meghalaya in collaboration with state governments to improve farm income.

Saffron is a costly spice fetching a minimum of Rs 3.5 lakh per kilogramme and is rich in bioactive compounds with therapeutic properties.
