1. The Supreme Court collegium has recommended to the Centre the names of five judges to be appointed as chief justices of the high courts of Rajasthan, Punjab and Haryana, Gauhati, Allahabad, and Jharkhand.

The collegium recommended the name of Justice Manindra Mohan Shrivastava for appointment as the chief justice of the Rajasthan high court, Justice Sheel Nagu of the Punjab and Haryana HC, Vijay Bishnoi of the Gauhati HC, Arun Bhansali of the Allahabad HC, and B R Sarangi of the Jharkhand HC.

2. National Investigation Agency (NIA) has been called in to investigate the reported ‘blast’ near the Israel Embassy in Delhi. Delhi Police received a call about a blast but found no evidence at the spot. The NIA is probing the alleged incident.

3. Purchase of three plots of land in Haryana in 2005-06 by Congress leader Sonia Gandhi’s son-in-law Robert Vadra from a real estate agent is being probed along with a land deal made by his wife Priyanka Gandhi Vadra, the Enforcement Directorate (ED) claimed in a recently filed money laundering case charge sheet.

1. At least one person drowned and four others went missing after a country boat in which they were travelling capsized in Patali river in Odisha’s Koraput district on Wednesday night.

2. 12 people were killed and 14 injured after a private bus and dumper collided head on Guna-Aaron road in Madhya Pradesh on Wednesday night.

3. A fertilizer plant in North Chennai’s Ennore area experienced an ammonia gas leak, leading to the hospitalization of around 50 people. The gas leak occurred from an underwater pipeline that runs from the sea to the fertilizer manufacturing facility of Coromandel International Limited.

1. Tamil-actor politician, Desiya Murpokku Dravida Kazhagam founder-leader Vijayakanth passed away on Thursday in Chennai. He was 71. The actor tested positive for Covid-19 and was on ventilator support.

Fondly known as ‘Captain’, Vijayakanth was admitted to the hospital in November for respiratory issues but was discharged a few weeks later. He made his last public appearance on December 14.

2. Filmfare Awards to be held in Gujarat on 28 Jan 2024, In July, the Gujarat Tourism Corporation Limited (TCGL) signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with Worldwide Media Pvt Ltd (A Times Group Company) to host the 69th Filmfare Awards.

Eastern Army Commander Lt General RP Kalita on Wednesday said the availability of a large number of firearms with the warring groups in Manipur and instability in Myanmar leading to influx of people from the neighbouring country are the key challenges in restoring peace in the strife-torn North-Eastern state.

6. Pakistan’s military successfully conducted a flight test of the indigenously developed guided multi-launch rocket system Fatah-II , showcasing a significant advancement in its missile capabilities. The system boasts a 400-kilometer range.
