1. *National Sports Day celebrated today* — India observes National Sports Day on August 29 every year to commemorate the birth anniversary of legendary hockey player Major Dhyan Chand, who was born on this day in 1905.
2. President Smt Murmu celebrates Raksha Bandhan with students — President Droupadi Murmu participated in a special Raksha Bandhan celebration with students from 17 states and one Union Territory at Rashtrapati Bhavan.

6. Government has said that around one thousand five hundred beneficiaries have been registered on PARIVARTAN, (Programme for Accelerated Renewal and Incentivization of Vehicle Assets for Reducing Transport Air Pollution and Network Emissions) scheme within one month of its launch. The scheme was launched on 14th July this year to accelerate the transition towards cleaner mobility through financial incentives.
7. Communications Minister Jyotiraditya M. Scindia hailed the citizen-centric initiative, Sanchar Saathi’s record recovery of lost or stolen mobile handsets in a single month across the country. In a social media post, Mr Scindia said that Sanchar Saathi has helped to recover 77 thousand 692 lost or stolen mobile handsets in the month of July.
8. The annual Shri Amarnath Yatra concluded yesterday in Jammu and Kashmir, coinciding with the festival of Raksha Bandhan. The 57-day-long yatra began on July 3 this year
9. Union Minister of Agriculture, Farmers Welfare and Rural Development, Shivraj Singh Chouhan, has reached Punjab to participate in ‘Kissan Chaupal’ at village Umra Nangal in Baba Bakala of Amritsar district and interact with farmers on the occasion of Rakshabandhan.
10. 🚚 India’s logistics costs in focus — Mumbai, Delhi-NCR and Bengaluru have emerged among the Asia-Pacific locations with the highest logistics-rent growth during the first half of 2026.
11. Andhra Pradesh approved India’s first dedicated Quantum and AI University campus in Amaravati on 27 August 2026. The project will be developed by the National Institute of Electronics and Information Technology, a Deemed-to-be University under the Union Ministry of Electronics and Information Technology.
12. Telangana launched a gold and copper mining exploration programme at Lingadahalli village in Devadurga taluk of Raichur district, Karnataka, on 27 August 2026. The project covers 199.13 square kilometres and marks the first entry of Singareni Collieries Company Limited into critical and strategic mineral exploration.
13. Uttar Pradesh completed the physical demarcation of the 700-kilometre Ganga River floodplain zone across 13 districts from Unnao to Ballia. The boundary work was marked on the ground with 7,350 pillars, and the status was placed before the National Green Tribunal in August 2026.
14. 🌧️ Weather alert — India Meteorological Department (IMD) has issued an orange alert for heavy to very heavy rainfall at isolated places of Odisha. The Met department predicted heavy rainfall over Bihar, Chhattisgarh, East Madhya Pradesh, Gangetic West Bengal, Jharkhand, Uttarakhand and North-Eastern states.

1. Bombay High questions Disha Salian probe — The Bombay High Court has questioned authorities regarding discrepancies in medical findings and the police investigation while hearing a plea seeking a fresh probe.
Disha Salian died on June 8, 2020, after falling from a 14th-floor building in Mumbai. The original police investigation treated it as suicide/accidental death and found no evidence of foul play.
A Maharashtra Police SIT was later formed to re-examine the case. Its findings were reported as broadly consistent with the earlier investigation and did not establish foul play.
2. 🏛️ Government proposes tighter norms for e-cycles and e-bikes — The Road Transport Ministry has proposed stricter technical and safety standards for low-speed electric cycles and e-bikes.
3. Junk foods will soon carry warning labels.
🥫 Stricter food labelling proposed — Food products high in two or more nutrients such as fat, sugar or salt could face a prominent red-coloured front-of-pack warning under a proposal being discussed by regulators.
4. The Government has said that there is no shortage of sugar in the country and all necessary measures will be taken for adequate availability of sugar at reasonable prices. Consumer Affairs Ministry said that ex-mill sugar prices have declined by around 20 per cent in recent days, while retail sugar prices have also started coming down.
5. The National Human Rights Commission (NHRC) has issued a notice to West Bengal Chief Secretary over the reported death of at least sixty newborns this month at Malda Medical College and Hospital in West Bengal.
6. The Government has debunked a fake video circulating in social media, falsely claiming that the wall of the Bhakra Nangal Dam has developed a tilt of 1.77 inches. The video misleadingly claims that a breach in the dam could cause flooding in several cities, including Delhi. The Fact Check Unit of the Press Information Bureau (PIB) has clarified that the claim is false and noted that the actual recorded deflection of the dam wall on 27th August 2024 was 0.86 inches.

1. The inaugural meeting of the India-Kuwait Joint Defence Committee (JDC) was held in New Delhi yesterday. During the meeting, both countries agreed to further strengthen the bilateral defence cooperation across a wide range of areas, including training, military exercises, military medicine, staff talks, defence industry, and Research and Development.
2. 🚀 QRSAM trials — The Quick Reaction Surface-to-Air Missile (QRSAM) system, developed by India’s DRDO, successfully concluded its user-evaluation and developmental flight trials off the Odisha coast, achieving 360-degree tracking, short-stop launches, and direct mid-air target hits within a 25–30 km operational range.
3. India is preparing one of its largest-ever indigenous missile production drives, with parallel orders for around 1,000 QRSAM and 1,000 Akash-NG missiles.Together, these procurements could reshape India’s layered air-defence architecture and expand its domestic manufacturing base under the emerging Sudarshan Chakra shield.
4. India has formally signed a Letter of Offer and Acceptance with the United States for the acquisition of the FGM-148 Javelin anti-tank guided missile system.The deal, valued at approximately $45.7 million, was notified to the US Congress by the Defence Security Cooperation Agency in November last year.
5. India has formally entered the sixth‑generation fighter race as a dialogue partner in the UK‑Japan‑Italy‑Canada Global Combat Air Program (GCAP), while simultaneously pursuing deeper collaboration with France’s Future Combat Air System (FCAS).
6. Defence exports expanded — The government has eased defence-export rules to help Indian companies reach more international markets and strengthen the domestic defence industry.

The TEJAS MK-2 prototype is now likely to take to the skies in the middle of 2027, marking yet another shift in a schedule that has repeatedly slipped over the years.Hindustan Aeronautics Limited, or HAL, has confirmed that the first prototype is expected to make its maiden flight between March and July 2027.
