Bihar Crisis : JD(U) MLAs At Nitish Kumar’s Residence Ahead Of Likely Switch. Bihar Chief Minister Nitish Kumar is preparing for another political switch as MLAs of Janata Dal (United) reached the leader’s office ahead of his likely return to an alliance with the BJP. He is expected to meet the Governor at 11.30 am and tender his resignation, sources said.

1. The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has said that dense to very dense fog conditions will continue over various parts of India. These conditions will prevail over parts of Uttar Pradesh, Bihar, Uttarakhand, Madhya Pradesh, West Bengal, Odisha, Assam, Meghalaya, Mizoram and Tripura.

2. Vice-President, Shri Jagdeep Dhankhar will be on a two-day tour of Mumbai (Maharashtra), Puducherry and Cuddalore (Tamil Nadu).

3. PM Modi will share his thoughts with the people in the country and abroad in the ‘Mann Ki Baat’ programme on Akashvani at 11 A.M today.

4. Higher Education Institutions (HEIs) in the country will no longer be given grades under the accreditation system, rather they will be categorised either as ‘accredited’ or ‘not accredited’, the National Assessment and Accreditation Council (NAAC) said.

5. The Ministry of Education released the latest All India Survey on Higher Education (AISHE) for 2021-22, covering all higher education institutions in India. AISHE has been conducted annually since 2011. The total enrolment in higher education has grown to nearly 4.33 crore in 2021-22, increasing by over 91 lakh students since 2014-15. The total number of universities, colleges and standalone institutions registered under AISHE now stands at 1168, 45473 and 12002 respectively.

6. Secretary of the Department of School Education and Literacy, Ministry of Education Sanjay Kumar said over 2 crore 26 lakh students have registered for this year’s Pariksha Pe Charcha programme.

7. Union Education Minister Dharmendra Pradhan has written to the Chief Ministers and governors of states and Lt Governors of UTs urging them to join the televised event of Pariksha Pe Charcha on 29th January in the presence of students, parents and teachers.

8. Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) has appointed state election in-charges for the upcoming Lok Sabha polls.

9. PM Modi will inaugurate the Diamond Jubilee celebration of the Supreme Court of India in New Delhi on Sunday (28th January 2024).

10. *JD(U) chief Nitish Kumar is likely to take oath as Bihar Chief Minister with BJP’s support.* Chief Minister Nitish Kumar’s likely break away from the mahagathbandhan in order to reunite with the Bharatiya Janata Party amid escalating tensions with allies from the Indian National Developmental Inclusive Alliance bloc.

11. The Bihar Government on January 26 transferred 22 IAS, 79 IPS and 45 Bihar Administrative Service (BAS) officers. The transferred officers included five District Magistrates (DMs) and 17 SPs.

12. Bihar State BJP Chief Samrat Choudhary says the party is assessing the political developments. Chief Minister NitishKumar has not resigned or snapped ties with the Grand Alliance, future course of action of BJP will be based on further developments.

13. PM Modi addressed the 84th All India Presiding Officers’ Conference, held in Maharashtra Legislature premises at Mumbai, via video message on Saturday (27th January 2024).

20. Former Union minister and former Chandigarh MP Harmohan Dhawan passed away following a prolonged illness at a private hospital in Mohali on Saturday evening, he was 83 years old.

1. The Enforcement Directorate (ED) has issued a fresh communication to Jharkhand Chief Minister Hemant Soren, asking him to participate in the investigation in a money laundering case. Soren is requested to confirm his availability for questioning on either 29 January 29 or 31 January.

2. *Z+ Security For Kerala Governor After SFI Protest:* Kerala governor Arif Mohammed Khan on Saturday sat on a dharna at a wayside shop demanding the arrest of Students Federation of India (SFI) activists who protested against him in Nilamel in Kollam district. After sitting there for over two hours, Khan left the place only after the police showed him a copy of the FIR registered against 17 SFI activists under non-bailable provisions of the law.

3. The state of Kerala filed a lawsuit under Article 131 of the Indian Constitution in the Supreme Court challenging the Centre’s recent actions limiting states’ borrowing capacities.

4. Judge vs Judge: The Supreme Court has issued a notice to the state of West Bengal and stayed all further proceedings before the Calcutta High Court following a rare conflict between a single judge and a division bench. The matter pertains to alleged irregularities in the issuance of reserved category certificates and admission of MBBS candidates in state-run medical colleges and hospitals.

5. The Vishwa Hindu Parishad on 27 January claimed the Archeological Survey of India’s report has ‘reconfirmed’ that the Gyanvapi mosque in Varanasi was constructed after demolishing a ‘magnificent temple’ at the site. The VHP also sought the structure be declared ‘a Hindu temple and handed over to the community. It demanded Hindus be permitted to offer ‘sewa puja’ to the ‘Shivlinga’ found in the ‘so-called Wazukhana area’ at the disputed site.

6. Delhi Court on Saturday summoned former Bihar chief minister Rabri Devi and her daughters Misa Bharti and Hema Yadav along with others after taking cognisance of an Enforcement Directorate charge sheet against them in the railways land-for-jobs linked money laundering case.

1.. *Budget 2024* : Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman, who will be reading out the Interim Budget statement on 1 February 2024, will be the second finance minister to present her sixth straight budget after equalling her record with former PM Morarji Desai.

Sitharaman, the first full-time woman finance minister of the country, has presented five full budgets since July 2019 and will present an interim or vote-on-account budget next Thursday.

1. *THE ARMY HAS EMBRACED MODERN TECHNOLOGY, SIGNING CONTRACTS WORTH OVER ₹320 CRORE* for 563 logistics drones designed for high-altitude deliveries. Additionally, a ₹285-crore deal has been finalized for 100 four-legged robotic mules capable of autonomous movement in diverse terrains up to 10,000 feet. Another contract worth almost ₹70 crore is for 300 rough-terrain vehicles, each capable of carrying over 100kg of load.

2. Joint Military Exercise ‘SADA TANSEEQ’ between India and Saudi Arabia will be held from January 29 to February 10 in Rajasthan.

3. *INDIAN NAVY DOUSES FIRE AT BRITISH OIL TANKER AFTER US STRIKES HOUTHI-LINKED MISSILE* : The Indian Navy on Saturday said that it has deployed its guided missile destroyer – INS Visakhapatnam – in the Gulf of Aden in response to a distress call from MV Marlin Luanda on the night of 26 January. The vessel was attacked by the Houthis on the night of January 26. The distress call from MV Marlin Luanda came on the night of 26 January.

4. *TEJAS MK-1A TO BE INDUCTED INTO IAF SOON:* TEJAS series has been developed under Light Combat Aircraft (LCA) program to replace India’s ageing MiG-21 fighters. Currently, Tejas has three production variants, namely the MK-1, MK-1A and a trainer version. Additionally, the production of the MK-2 version of the aircraft is expected to begin by 2026.

Top Army officers on Friday reached out to the Poonch-based family of commando Havildar Majid Hussain, who laid down his life while fighting terrorists in Rajouri district, and expressed profound gratitude to them.Havildar Hussain of the Parachute regiment’s 9th battalion (special forces) has been conferred with the Kirti Chakra posthumously.

6. Indian Army and women in the country, Havildar Preeti Rajak, a trap shooter, was promoted to the rank of Subedar on Saturday. Subedar Preeti Rajak is now the first woman Subedar in the Indian Army. Her accomplishment is a remarkable example of women’s strength and capability.

Subedar Preeti Rajak joined the Indian Army in the Corps of Military Police on 22 December, 2022 based on her proven performance in trap shooting. Preeti Rajak is the first meritorious sportswoman in the shooting discipline to be enrolled in the Indian Army as a Havildar.
