1. India and France have agreed to work together on the joint production of defence equipment including helicopters and submarines for the Indian armed forces and production for friendly countries.

*French jet engine maker CFM International also announced an agreement with India’s Akasa Air to buy more than 300 of its LEAP-1B engines to power 150 Boeing, opens new tab 737 MAX.

2. Recently India and Saudi Arabia signed a bilateral agreement under which New Delhi has been allocated a quota of 1,75,025 pilgrims for the annual Haj pilgrimage in 2024.

3. Thailand’s Prime Minister Srettha Thavisin graced India’s Republic Day reception in Bangkok, an event hosted by the Indian embassy in the country. This unprecedented presence of the Thai PM at the reception not only underscores the special gesture extended by Thailand but also signifies a rare occasion where a Thai Prime Minister attends such events.

1. Israel said that it will stop the operations of the UN agency for Palestinian refugees in Gaza once the war gets over, said a minister on Saturday (27 Jan) after several UNRWA staff were accused by Tel Aviv of being involved in Hamas’s 7 October attack.

2. The UN’s International Court of Justice (ICJ), by a 15-2 majority, has ordered Israel to take action to prevent acts of genocide and allow humanitarian aid but stopped short of calling for an immediate ceasefire as had been sought by South Africa in the case it had filed against Tel Aviv.

3. Gunmen in southeastern Iran killed nine people Saturday, Iranian media reported, with Islamabad’s ambassador identifying them as Pakistanis, as the neighbouring countries have sought to ease tensions after deadly cross-border fire.

4. More than 30 Chinese military aircraft were detected around Taiwan in a 24-hour window, Taipei’s defence ministry said Saturday, marking the largest show of force around the island since it held crucial elections.

5. The EU launched a “European Ports Alliance” on to harmonize methods to combat drug smuggling and infiltration by criminal groups at ports. The initiative was inaugurated at Belgium’s Antwerp port, the main gateway for cocaine into Europe.
