1. *Republic Day 2024 Parade Highlights* : “Aavaahan” took center stage at Kartavya Path on Friday as India marked its 75th Republic Day. The Republic Day Parade started at 10:30 AM from Vijay Chowk to Kartavya Path.

(a) Dignitaries including French President Macron, the chief guest, President Murmu, and Prime Minister Narendra Modi witnessed the event, which featured tableaux representing states, Union Territories, and various ministries.

(b) The parade’s twin themes, ‘Visit Bharat’ (developed India) and ‘Bharat — Loktantra Ki Matruka’ (India — the mother of democracy), were showcased.

(c) Prominent entries included tableaux of Ayodhya’s Ram Mandir and ISRO’s Chandrayaan-3 spacecraft, along with a march past celebrating ‘nari shakti.’

(d) Additionally, four Mi-17 IV helicopters from the 105 Helicopter Unit showered flower petals on the audience at Kartavya Path.

(e) A 95-member marching contingent and a 33-member band contingent from France participated in the 75th Republic Day Parade in New Delhi.

2. The Central government has approved a new three-drug treatment regimen for leprosy patients, aiming to stop transmission of the disease in India by 2027.

The new regimen will be implemented for all PB leprosy patients from 01 April, 2025 instead of the current two-drug regimen given for 6 months.

3. The Central Building Research Institute (CBRI) has identified 14 high risk zones in Joshimath after a detailed survey. These zones with severe land subsidence include houses in the Marwari, Sunil, Upper Bazar, Lower Bazar, Singhdhar and Manohar Bagh areas.

4. The Union Cabinet has approved a viability gap funding (VGF) scheme worth ₹8,500 crore to promote coal gasification projects in India. This move aims to encourage adoption of cleaner coal technologies for power generation and production of chemicals.

5. In a significant political development, Bihar Chief Minister Nitish Kumar has delivered a substantial blow to the I.N.D.I.A bloc by announcing his decision to rejoin the National Democratic Alliance (NDA). According to reports, Kumar may consider realigning with the BJP to form a new government. The seasoned JDU leader will continue in his role as Chief Minister until the upcoming Lok Sabha elections.

6. Amidst reports of the political crisis in Bihar intensifying, an offer for the post of Deputy Chief Minister was extended to Jitan Ram Manjhi’s son, Santosh Manjhi, by Rashtriya Janata Dal (RJD) supremo Lalu Yadav.

7. In Andhra pradesh: Jana Sena chief Pawan Kalyan on Friday declared that his party intends to participate in the upcoming assembly elections in Andhra Pradesh, fielding candidates in two constituencies – Razole and Rajanagaram.

8. The New & Renewable Energy Development Corporation of Andhra Pradesh (NREDCAP) has set the stage for laying the foundation soon for the pumped storage hydropower projects (PSHPs) at Chitravathi and Gandikota in the Sri Sathya Sai and Kadapa districts respectively by Chief Minister Y.S. Jagan Mohan Reddy.

Adani Green Energy Limited (AGEL) is the developer of both the projects having 500 (2×250) MW and 1,000 (4×250) MW capacity respectively.

9. *12 from Maharashtra chosen for Padma awards:* Former Union minister and Uttar Pradesh governor Ram Naik, renowned music director Pyarelal and noted Marathi filmmaker Rajdutt are among the 12 personalities from Maharashtra selected for the prestigious Padma awards this year.

10. The new dispensation in Telangana has appointed Chairman and five members of Telangana State Public Service Commission (TSPSC). Former State DGP M Mahendar Reddy has been appointed as Chairman. The term of Chairman and members will be for six years or till they attain the age of 62 years.

11. Kashmir: After a prolonged dry spell, light snow in the hills and rain in the plains of the Kashmir Valley brought relief, ending the two-month dry spell. The Meteorological Department predicts more snow and rains until January 31, marking a significant shift in the weather pattern.

12. As per WHO, Europe reported over 30,000 measles cases in 2023 – a shocking 30 times rise compared to 2022 numbers. This underscores a troubling reversal in a preventable infectious disease that can turn fatal for vulnerable groups.

1. Gyanvapi mosque panel reacts to ASI’s ‘pre-existing temple’ finding: The Anjuman Intezamia Masajid Committee, which manages Varanasi’s Gyanvapi mosque situated adjacent to the Kashi Vishwanath Temple, has reacted to the ASI survey report, saying the document is not a court judgment or “the final word”. The Archaeological Survey of India said in its report that the mosque had been built on the remains of a large Hindu temple.

Advocate Vishnu Shankar Jain on Thursday said the ASI had found remnants of a temple inside the mosque.

2. The Supreme Court on Thursday (January 25) issued a notice to the Kerala Government and Kerala State Road Transport Corporation (KSRTC) on a petition filed by the Vishwa Hindu Parishad (VHP) seeking permission to operate vehicles offering free ride to Sabarimala pilgrims on Nilakkal-Pampa route.

3. Karnataka CM launched a lift irrigation project in Periyapatna taluk in Mysuru district on January 24. The Managing Director of Chamundeshwari Electricity Supply Corporation (CESC), Mysuru, C.N. Sridhar was suspended pending inquiry on the charge of dereliction of duty. Mr Sridhar is a super-time scale KAS officer.

4. Referring to Ayodhya’s Ram Temple, DMK leader and Tamil Nadu minister Udhayanidhi Stalin said his party is not in agreement with a temple that was constructed after demolishing a mosque.

1. A firm led by Indian billionaire Gautam Adani will start in February to collect the data and biometrics of up to 1 million poor residents as part of the redevelopment of a slum in Mumbai that is considered one of Asia’s largest.

The survey will be crucial in deciding who among the residents of the Dharavi slum will be eligible to receive a free home in the area that is being redeveloped. Only residents that have lived in Dharavi before the year 2000 will be eligible for the free housing.

2. India’s Tata group and France’s Airbus (AIR.PA), opens new tab have signed an agreement to manufacture civilian helicopters together, India’s Foreign Secretary Vinay Kwatra said.

3. TATA Group has inked an agreement to acquire Wistron’s India entity – Wistron InfoComm Manufacturing (India) Pvt Ltd. This strategic move positions TATA Group as the first Indian company to undertake the local manufacturing of Apple iPhones. The Bangalore-based facility is now under TATA’s ownership, pending necessary regulatory approvals.

4. Indian conglomerate JSW Group enters defence sector with new business vertical, JSW Defence, focusing on domestic and overseas markets. JSW Defence aims to supply equipment to Indian Armed Forces, become a global player, and contribute to India’s ambition of being a USD 5 billion defence export economy.

5. Shares of Dhanlaxmi Bank (DBL) surged 10 per cent on BSE to hit the highest level in over nine years on Thursday. The stock was locked in the 10 per cent upper circuit at Rs 51.20, its highest level since August 2014.

6. Amul has made a remarkable achievement by securing the second position globally in the Co-op Monitor, showcasing the strength of India’s dairy cooperative sector.

The Gujarat Cooperative Milk Marketing Federation Ltd. (GCMMF), operating under the renowned brand name Amul, clinched this prestigious spot among the world’s top 300 cooperatives.

1. Defence Minister Rajnath Singh announced the allocation of record 75 per cent (approximately ₹1,00,000 crore) of the defence capital procurement budget for domestic industry in FY 2023-24.

2. Defence Research and Development Organisation chairman, Dr Samir V Kamat said that nearly ₹4.94 lakh crores worth of DRDO-developed products have either been inducted or have received the Acceptance of Necessity (AoN) from the Defence Acquisition Council (DAC).

The DRDO chief said that the first set of BrahMos missile systems is expected to reach Philippines by the end of March.India had signed a deal with the Philippines worth USD 375 million in January 2022 for the supply of shore-based anti-ship variant of the BrahMos supersonic cruise missile.

3. The Indo-Tibetan Border Police (ITBP) soldiers deployed at the peaks of the India-China border in Arunachal Pradesh celebrated the 75th Republic Day of India.Marking the occasion, Indian soldiers marched near the border area, waved the Indian flag and raised ‘Bharat Mata Ki Jai” slogans.

4. The Defence Ministry has signed a ₹1,070 crore contract with Mazagon Dock Shipbuilders Limited (MDL), Mumbai for constructing 14 Fast Patrol Vessels (FPV) for the Indian Coast Guard.
