11. NC leader Omar Abdullah and PDP president Mehbooba Mufti on Friday asked the Election Commission not to postpone polls in Anantnag-Rajouri Lok Sabha seat. Earlier some parties and three candidates submitted the representations to EC, seeking rescheduling of elections in the constituency due to adverse weather conditions, including snowfall on the Mughal road.

12. Waris Punjab De head Amritpal Singh, currently lodged in Dibrugarh jail in Assam under the National Security Act, will contest elections from Khadoor Sahib as an Independent candidate.

1. The Supreme Court on Friday dismissed pleas for the 100 per cent verification of voter verifiable paper audit trail (VVPAT) slips with the electronic voting machine count, holding that suspicions regarding tampering of EVMs were “unfounded”. This implies that polling will proceed as usual, with all voting machines connected to their respective VVPAT units.

2. Advocate Jai Anant Dehadrai told the Delhi High Court on Thursday that he wishes to withdraw his defamation lawsuit against Trinamool Congress (TMC) leader Mahua Moitra, as a “peace offering”.

6. A Delhi court dismissed an application filed by former Wrestling Federation of India (WFI) chief and BJP MP Brij Bhushan Sharan Singh seeking further investigation into a sexual harassment case lodged by six female wrestlers against him.

Calcutta High Court instructed the National Investigation Agency (NIA) to submit a report regarding the clashes in West Bengal’s Murshidabad district during Ram Navami celebrations, stating whether the probe should be handed over to the central agency. A division bench presided by Chief Justice T S Sivagnanam directed the NIA to file a report on the clashes and other allegations made in two PILs and the alleged use of bombs.

8. A court in Delhi extended the judicial custody of AAP leader Manish Sisodia, co-accused Vijay Nair and others till May 8 in a money laundering case related to the alleged Delhi excise policy scam. The judge also directed the Enforcement Directorate (ED) to submit a report on how much time it was likely to take to digitize the documents related to the charge sheet.

1. The Delhi High Court on Friday ordered the Union Ministry of Defence to decide in eight weeks the plea demanding that women should be allowed to join the Indian Army, Navy and Air Force through Combined Defence Services (CDS) exams.

2. Under the new Social Democratic Party government led by Olaf Scholz, Germany has lifted restrictions on the sale of small arms, thereby allowing the Indian military and its state police forces to buy them off the shelf.

Earlier this month, the German government green-lit a request by the National Security Guard (NSG) to buy spare parts and accessories for its MP5 submachine guns that were procured earlier, sources in the know said.

IAF Conducts Successful Test of Air-Launched Ballistic Missile : The Indian Air Force (IAF) has achieved a significant milestone by successfully testing a new version of an air-launched medium-range ballistic missile. The missile, codenamed ROCKS or Crystal Maze 2, was test-fired from a Su-30 MKI fighter jet in the Andaman and Nicobar Islands.

Indian Navy’s indigenous stealth frigate, INS Sahyadri participated in the Maritime Partnership Exercise with Royal Navy’s RFA Argus and RFA Lyme Bay, part of the UK Littoral Response Group South, The exercise, which took place on Thursday aimed to enhance interoperability and strengthen maritime cooperation between the two nations.

5. A forest fire in Uttarakhand took a severe form on Friday as the flames reached Nainital’s High Court Colony. The Nainital administration has called forest department employees and army personnel to control the blaze. They may press helicopters in the fire-fighting operation if the situation spirals out of control.
