2. 3-year practice requirement for judicial exams reduced to 1 year : The Supreme Court has modified its earlier rule and reduced the minimum legal-practice requirement for candidates appearing for entry-level judicial service examinations from 3 years to 1 year.
New Requirement: Candidates applying for recruitment notifications issued on or after April 1, 2027, must have at least one year of verified active practice at the bar.
3. The Supreme Court advised Tamil Nadu on August 24, 2026, to approach the Cauvery Water Management Authority (CWMA) regarding its demand for a proportionate share of water from Karnataka.

The Supreme Court Monday said it would pass order on former Tehelka editor Tarun Tejpal’s plea seeking exemption from surrender after Bombay High Court convicted and sentenced him to 10 years of imprisonment in a 2013 rape case, with Goa govt opposing his plea and contending that his appeal was not admissible since the convict had not filed a separate application seeking exemption from surrender or shown a certificate that he has already surrendered as per Order XXII Rule 5 of the Supreme Court Rules, 2013.
6. The Cockroach Janta Party has called for a peaceful protest march from India Gate to the new Delhi Police Headquarters on September 5, Teachers’ Day, accusing the Centre of failing to honour the promises made on July 25 to convince the outfit to withdraw its 36-day agitation against examination irregularities.

1. The “Eagles of Civilisation 2026” joint air exercise began between the Egyptian Air Force and the People’s Liberation Army Air Force in August 2026. The drill involved Chinese J-16 fighter jets, aerial refuelling aircraft, special-mission aircraft, and helicopters arriving at an Egyptian airbase after a 6,000-kilometre flight from China. The exercise was the second bilateral air drill between Egypt and China.
